Role Description The Senior Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Frankfort, IL, or Crown Point, IN responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for industrial construction and equipment installation projects. This role involves reviewing drawings, specifications, and project documents to define scope, quantity takeoffs, labor and material requirements, subcontractor needs, and schedule considerations. The Senior Estimator will prepare detailed proposals, budgets, and bid packages, and will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and field supervisors to validate constructability and cost assumptions. Daily responsibilities include soliciting and evaluating vendor and subcontractor quotes, identifying cost-saving opportunities, assessing project risks, and maintaining an organized database of historical costs. The role also supports client meetings, clarifies technical and commercial questions, and assists in handoff from preconstruction to project execution to ensure alignment between estimates and field performance.
Qualifications
- Strong estimating and cost analysis skills for industrial construction, including quantity takeoffs, labor and material costing, and proposal development.
- Field experience in industrial construction is considered a strong asset.
- Experience with equipment installation, relocation, critical alignment, machinery retrofits/rebuilds, and conveyor installation or similar industrial projects.
- Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and project management tools, along with solid MS Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and technical documents, and to translate them into clear scopes of work.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy under tight deadlines.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Demonstrated experience in industrial, mechanical, or construction environments; prior senior or lead estimating experience is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work on-site in Frankfort, IL, or Crown Point, IN with occasional travel to client locations, job sites, and vendor facilities as needed.
