Solutions Specialist (Collector)

Advantage Credit Union is seeking a Solutions Specialist to join our Lending team. This position plays an important role in helping members resolve past-due obligations while protecting the financial interests of the credit union. The ideal candidate is compassionate but accountable, comfortable having difficult financial conversations, highly organized, and committed to consistent follow-through.

As a Solutions Specialist, you will work directly with members experiencing financial difficulties to understand their circumstances, establish appropriate payment solutions, and help them get back on track. You will also monitor delinquent accounts, recommend recovery actions when traditional collection efforts are unsuccessful, and assist with legal recovery and bankruptcy matters.

What You’ll Do

• Monitor delinquent loans and accounts and take timely collection action.
• Communicate with members and borrowers by phone and other channels to resolve past-due obligations.
• Listen to members’ circumstances and identify reasonable solutions that balance their needs with the credit union’s financial interests.
• Establish payment arrangements and resolution plans within established guidelines.
• Consistently follow up on payment commitments, arrangements, and past-due balances.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of member contacts and collection activity. Review account relationships, payment history, collateral, and other relevant information to determine appropriate collection strategies.
• Perform skip tracing and research when necessary to locate members or borrowers.
• Identify higher-risk or deteriorating accounts and escalate them appropriately.
• Recommend recovery actions such as repossession, legal action, foreclosure, or charge-off when appropriate.
• Assist with bankruptcy filings, legal recovery matters, repossessions, judgments, garnishments, and related documentation.
• Coordinate with attorneys, repossession vendors, collection agencies, and other recovery partners.
• Represent Advantage Credit Union in court proceedings or other legal matters when required, independently or alongside the Director of Lending.
• Work closely with the Director of Lending, Solutions Processor, and other departments to ensure collection and recovery efforts are timely, compliant, and well documented.

What we are looking for

• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in business, finance, or a related field preferred.
• Previous experience in collections, lending, member service, financial services, or a related field preferred.
• Credit union or financial institution experience is preferred.
• Ability to communicate professionally and confidently about past-due obligations and sensitive financial situations.
• Strong listening, negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to demonstrate empathy while maintaining accountability and clearly communicating expectations.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple accounts, deadlines, and follow-up commitments.
• Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with others.
• Knowledge of collection laws, lending regulations, and recovery practices—or the ability and willingness to develop that knowledge.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information professionally.
