Role Summary

Are you a visionary technology leader with a passion for building scalable data platforms that power innovation? AdvancedMD is seeking an experienced Sr. Director of Data Platform and Data Engineering to define and drive the future of our enterprise data strategy. In this role, you’ll provide both technical and people leadership—mentoring teams, shaping architecture, and fostering a culture of ownership, excellence, and continuous improvement.

You’ll play a pivotal role in guiding our migration from Cognos to a modern Snowflake-based platform on AWS, while establishing best practices for governance, security, and interoperability. Partnering closely with engineering, product, and AI/ML teams, you’ll ensure our data infrastructure not only meets today’s analytics and operational needs but also scales to support advanced machine learning, real-time processing, and long-term growth.

Essential Job Duties:

• Provide both technology and people leadership, mentoring engineers and fostering a culture of excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement
• Define and drive the technical architecture for AdvancedMD’s 1Enterprise Data Platform with an intent to migrate from Cognos on AWS to Snowflake on AWS
• Lead architectural decision-making related to data modeling, storage formats, ingestion pipelines, real-time processing, schema evolution, and governance across customer segments, solution offerings and partners
• Partner closely with platform engineers, product managers, AI/ML teams to ensure architecture supports both current analytics needs and long-term autonomy goals
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (including Systems Engineering, Simulation, Product, and Cloud vendors) to ensure cohesive integration across the AdvancedMD platform, internal BI and Analytics tools, vendor ecosystem and external customer base
• Establish best practices for data interoperability, scalability, performance, and vendor-agnostic design
• Guide architectural reviews, technical roadmaps, and technology selection across the platform ecosystem
• Act as a strategic peer to data and software engineering leaders—providing hands-on guidance and architectural oversight without direct line management responsibility
• Mentor teams in data architecture principles, scalable design patterns, cloud-native and AI engineering practices
• Lead the design and delivery of end-to-end cloud-native solutions with a focus on Lakehouse architecture
• Set and enforce security best practices (IAM, encryption, network security) and ensure compliance with frameworks such as GDPR and HIPAA
• Establish and enforce enterprise-grade data governance frameworks, including data cataloging, lineage, classification, and access control, leveraging tools like Lake Formation or Azure Purview
• Design and lead implementation of robust data engineering pipelines, including ETL/ELT, data lakes, and data warehouses
  
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
• 10 years of experience in software/data engineering, with deep expertise in data architecture at scale
• Proven experience designing and evolving modern data platforms using cloud-native services—Snowflake, AWS strongly preferred
• Hands-on experience with modern lake house architectures and storage formats such as Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg, or Apache Hudi
• Deep knowledge of real-time and batch data processing frameworks (e.g., Kafka, Spark, Flink)
• Practical experience with data interoperability, cost optimization, and vendor management across big data ecosystems
• Experience building data platforms that support analytics, GenAI, AI/ML model training, and production-grade inference
• Strong understanding of metadata, schema evolution, and lineage tracking in enterprise environments
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills—able to operate effectively across technical, product, and executive audiences
• Ability to drive architectural vision while remaining hands-on and pragmatic in problem-solving

Work Environment
