SUMMARY: The Cost Engineer is responsible for analyzing and pricing changes to project scope by developing accurate cost estimates, labor forecasts, and schedule impacts. This role supports project management by ensuring all change orders are financially justified, competitive, and compliant with contractual requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities; however, direction may be provided to project coordinators, QA and engineering personnel, and to shop personnel. Direction is provided in the spirit of organizing and prioritizing the tasks required to complete projects on time and within budget.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for change orders (labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors).
- Read and interpret technical specifications and customer change order requests.
- Utilize Microsoft Office software for estimating, such as Excel and/or Word.
- Develop Bill of Materials (BOM) from complex mechanical, weldment, and electrical drawings.
- Read and interpret sketches and blueprints including weld symbols, GD&T and drawing material specifications.
- Support Project Managers with developing proposals and supporting documentation for customer submissions.
- Work with ATG material and component suppliers to obtain accurate cost and lead time estimates.
- Evaluate schedule impacts and coordinate with project controls.
- Work closely with key internal stakeholders (project management, engineering, quality, shop personnel, etc.).
- Represent ATG in a professional, courteous manner.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3-5 years of estimating, project controls, or cost engineering experience.
- Understanding of custom manufacturing is required.
- Previous experience with CAD software to extract pertinent information required.
- Previous experience in manufacturing/fabrication and manufacturing planning required.
- Previous experience in Nuclear, energy, or government projects (DOE, DoD) preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with all organization levels both internally and externally.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- High attention to detail and thorough. Highly proficient using Adobe Pro software
- Ability to understand and interpret technical specifications and customer requirements
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings – mechanical, welding, assembly, and electrical
