Job Description – Strength & Conditioning Coach
Position: Strength & Conditioning Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director
Location: Dearborn Advanced Technology Academy (ATA)
Position Overview
The Strength & Conditioning Coach will design, implement, and oversee comprehensive training programs for middle school and high school athletes across multiple sports. This individual will ensure all workouts are safe, effective, compliant with MHSAA regulations, and aligned with ATA policies. The coach will be responsible for supervising and managing the weight room, monitoring athlete progress, and fostering a culture of discipline, respect, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Development & Implementation
- Design and deliver strength, conditioning, and speed/agility programs for all ATA athletic teams (middle and high school).
- Modify training plans to meet the needs of different sports, ages, and skill levels.
- Emphasize injury prevention, proper technique, and long-term athlete development.
- Compliance & Safety
- Ensure training practices follow MHSAA rules and ATA policies.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and positive training environment.
- Enforce proper use of all strength and conditioning equipment.
- Weight Room & Facility Oversight
- Supervise all weight room activities during scheduled sessions.
- Oversee equipment use, storage, cleanliness, and safety inspections.
- Establish and enforce a discipline plan for weight room behavior and expectations.
- Athlete Support & Development
- Track athlete progress and provide feedback to head coaches and athletic trainers.
- Teach and reinforce proper lifting, stretching, and recovery techniques.
- Collaborate with sport coaches to complement practice and competition demands.
- Professionalism & Leadership
- Serve as a role model for student-athletes, promoting sportsmanship, accountability, and discipline.
- Communicate effectively with coaches, athletes, and parents as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training
certifications.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or related field (preferred).
- Certification(s): NSCA-CSCS, NASM-PES, USAW, or equivalent strength & conditioning certification required.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (must be current).
- Previous experience working with high school athletes (required); middle school experience a plus.
Background in personal training or group training leadership (preferred). Strong knowledge of weightlifting, conditioning, and sport performance training methods. Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to uphold and enforce ATA and MHSAA policies consistently.
Working Conditions
- Supervised weight room, gymnasium, and athletic facilities.
Flexible schedule required, including evenings and weekends during athletic seasons. Must be able to lift, spot, and demonstrate athletic movements.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 6 per week
