Overview
The ASC Billing Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the billing and revenue cycle operations to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant billing, collections, and reimbursement. This role provides leadership, guidance, and support to the billing team while ensuring adherence to payer guidelines, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. The ASC Billing Manager plays a critical role in optimizing revenue performance, reducing denials, and improving overall ASC billing efficiency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Oversees daily ASC billing operations for large practice with multiple sites, including charge entry, claims submission, payment posting, accounts receivable, and denial management.
· Demonstrates advanced knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines and payer-specific requirements.
· Monitors ASC billing workflows to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance throughout the full billing cycle.
· Reviews accounts, reconciles discrepancies, and ensures timely resolution of denials, rejections, and underpayments.
· Identifies, tracks, and reports billing trends, denials, and productivity metrics; implements corrective action plans as needed.
· Provides leadership, training, and ongoing performance feedback to billing staff.
· Develops and maintains billing policies, procedures, and internal controls to support compliance and best practices.
· Serves as a liaison between billing staff, providers, management, and insurance carriers.
· Ensures timely and professional communication with patients regarding billing inquiries and account resolutions.
· Supports audits, compliance reviews, and payer inquiries as required.
· Utilizes reporting tools to monitor revenue performance and recommend process improvements.
· Perform all other job functions, as assigned.
EDUCATION
· High school diploma / GED Certification
· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field preferred
· Billing or Coding Certification COC, CPC or CASCC is required
EXPERIENCE
· Minimum of five (5) years of medical ASC billing experience
· At least two (2) years of Management experience
· Experience with NextGen Office (NGO), AdvancedMD, or similar EMR/practice management systems preferred
· Ortho and GAE coding experience required
· Spine, Pain Management, Anesthesia, or Specialty Practice experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE
· Advanced knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, and payer guidelines
· Strong understanding of revenue cycle management and insurance reimbursement processes
· Knowledge of medical terminology
· Knowledge of authorizations, benefits verification, adjustments, and appeals
· Proficiency with EMR and practice management systems
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
