Security Clearance and Citizenship Requirements

  • Citizenship Requirement:
    1. This position requires U.S. citizenship due to the sensitive nature of the work and security clearance prerequisites.

  • Security Clearance Requirement:
    1. Eligible candidates must be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance. This involves passing the necessary background checks to ensure our team’s integrity and compliance with security standards.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

As a TEMPEST Apprentice, you will engage in a variety of crucial tasks that are designed to develop your skills and knowledge in the specialized field of TEMPEST technology:

  • Test Preparation and Execution: Learn to understand test schedules and take responsibility for executing comprehensive test plans, which include setup, operation modes, specific messages, and monitoring.
  • Equipment Handling: Install the Equipment Under Test (EUT) in a shielded enclosure following precise test plans and current National TEMPEST Standards.
  • Operational Verification: Check that all equipment is operational across test modes and confirm the calibration and functionality of detection system test equipment.
  • Measurements and Logging: Conduct ambient measurements for test setups and sensitivity measurements for detection systems. Maintain a detailed TEMPEST Status logbook.
  • Quality Assurance and Reporting: Perform TEMPEST Quality Assurance tests under the supervision of certified professionals (CTP I or CTP II), following approved plans and standards. Log test results for review using appropriate software.
  • Professional Development: Prepare for the NSA Certified TEMPEST Professional Tests to ensure readiness for certification and continuous professional growth.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Participate actively in project and engineering meetings, contributing to and learning from team discussions.

Mathematical and Reasoning Skills

  • Applicants should possess a working knowledge of algebra, logarithms, and scientific and engineering notation, all fundamental in technical environments. A basic understanding of trigonometry and its applications is also advantageous. These mathematical skills are essential for analyzing data, interpreting graphs, and addressing practical challenges during technical operations.
  • Strong reasoning skills are critical. Candidates must excel at following detailed procedures, interpreting various technical documents such as operational manuals and safety guidelines, and efficiently troubleshooting issues. The role demands analytical thinking and the capability to make informed decisions based on a logical analysis of available data.

Physical and Work Environment

  • The physical requirements of this position include using hands to manipulate tools and components, reaching with hands and arms, and regularly sitting for extended periods of time. Occasional standing, walking, and the ability to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds may also be required. Specific vision abilities necessary include close vision and the ability to distinguish colors.

  • The work environment may expose employees to risks such as electrical shocks, with a generally moderate noise level. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Education, Experience, and Language Skills

  • While a background in electronics is preferred, it is not required, making this an ideal entry point for those eager to start a career in a technical field. Effective communication skills are crucial, as the role involves reading and interpreting technical documents, writing routine reports and correspondence, and speaking effectively before groups of customers or employees.
