What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Authorizations Coordinator position at Advanced Pain Medical Center?
We are in search of a medical / procedural authorizations coordinator for our growing medical practice in the Jonesville area of Newberry, near Town of Tioga.
The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:
- prior experience in a medical clinic
- optimistic, upbeat personality; excellent verbal communication skills; excellent customer service focus; teamwork focused
- works quickly and efficiently; organized and able to manage competing priorities; good judgment; resourcefulness in problem solving; able to take and follow through with delegated tasks and accountability
- type greater than 50 words per minute
- excellent written communication skills, including grammar and spelling
- excellent attendance record
- flexibility to arrive early and stay late as occasional circumstances may dictate (typical work hours are 7:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. M-F)
- pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
- and would ideally have familiarity with Mac computers
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
Job responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Maintain ongoing tracking and appropriate documentation on procedure requests to promote team awareness and ensure patient safety. This tracking may use an IT database.
- Ensure complete and accurate registration, including patient demographic and current insurance information.
- Assemble information concerning patient's clinical background and authorization needs. Per authorization guidelines, provide appropriate clinical information to the payer, office manager, and/or physician.
- Contact review organizations and insurance companies to ensure prior approval requirements are met. Present necessary medical information such as history, diagnosis, and prognosis. Provide specific medical information to financial services to maximize reimbursement to the clinic.
- Review details and expectations about the authorization with patients.
- Assist patients in problem solving potential issues related to the health care system, financial, or social barriers (e.g., request transportation services).
- Establish and maintain relationships with identified service providers.
- Ensure that authorizations are addressed in a timely manner.
