Position Overview:
The Orthopedic Medical Assistant Scribe plays a vital role in supporting orthopedic healthcare providers by ensuring accurate documentation of patient encounters and assisting in clinical tasks. This role demands a combination of medical knowledge, organizational skills, and attention to detail to enhance patient care and streamline clinic operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Documentation Assistance:
- Accurately transcribe patient history, physical examinations, diagnostic tests, and treatment plans during clinic visits.
- Maintain electronic medical records (EMR) by entering data promptly and ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Assist orthopedic providers in documenting procedures, prescriptions, and follow-up instructions.
- Patient Care Support:
- Assist with patient intake, including recording vital signs, medical history, and reason for visit.
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Educate patients on treatment plans, rehabilitation exercises, and post-operative care as directed by the orthopedic provider.
- Clinical Duties:
- Collaborate with the orthopedic team to facilitate patient flow and optimize clinic efficiency.
- Prepare examination rooms and equipment, ensuring cleanliness and readiness for patient visits.
- Assist providers during orthopedic procedures, surgeries, and casting applications as needed.
- Communication and Coordination:
- Serve as a liaison between patients, providers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Communicate effectively with patients to address inquiries, schedule appointments, and relay test results.
- Collaborate with medical staff to coordinate referrals, imaging studies, and specialty consultations.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and clinic operations.
- Assist in inventory management, including stocking supplies and ensuring equipment maintenance.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification or associate degree in medical assisting preferred.
- Previous experience in a medical setting, particularly orthopedics, is advantageous.
- Proficiency in medical terminology, EMR systems, and basic clinical procedures.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
