The Physician Assistant (PA) is responsible for providing comprehensive primary care services to orthopedic surgical and non-surgical patients under the direction of the supervising physician. This role functions as a clinical liaison between the physician and patient, supporting accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, surgical assistance, and post-operative recovery. The PA collaborates closely with physicians and clinical staff to ensure high-quality, efficient, and compassionate patient care in a fast-paced orthopedic setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough patient evaluations in clinic, including history-taking, physical examinations, and review of imaging/diagnostic studies (X-rays, MRI, CT, etc.).
  • Diagnose a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders, including fractures, arthritis, sports injuries, degenerative conditions, trauma, and congenital issues.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, prioritizing conservative/non-surgical options (e.g., medications, injections, bracing, physical therapy referrals) when appropriate.
  • Perform orthopedic surgical procedures, such as arthroscopy, joint replacements (hip/knee/shoulder), fracture fixation, tendon/ligament repairs, spinal surgeries (if subspecialized), and other interventions in hospital or ambulatory surgery center settings.
  • Provide preoperative counseling, obtain informed consent, and coordinate perioperative care with anesthesiologists, hospital staff, and rehab teams.
  • Manage postoperative follow-up, monitor recovery, address complications, and guide rehabilitation to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate closely with group partners, primary care physicians, radiologists, physical/occupational therapists, and other specialists for multidisciplinary care.
  • Participate in group call rotation (e.g., shared trauma/general ortho call), hospital consultations, and emergency department coverage as needed.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in patient education, injury prevention strategies, and potential community outreach or practice marketing activities.
  • Optional: Pursue or maintain subspecialty focus (e.g., sports medicine, total joint, spine) aligned with practice needs and candidate expertise.

Qualifications

Required:

  • BS or MA in Physician Assistant Studies, Health Science, or Medical Science
  • Current PA Certification
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment

Preferred:

  • Orthopedic and/or pain management experience
  • Previous surgical assisting experience

Pay: From $100,000.00 per year
