Description

Position Summary

The Network and Systems Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of the organization’s server infrastructure, network systems, and core IT services. This role focuses heavily on Windows Server administration, system performance, security, and reliability. The administrator ensures that all systems operate efficiently, securely, and in alignment with organizational needs and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Windows Server Administration

  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022).
  • Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and domain services.
  • Perform server patching, updates, and lifecycle management.
  • Monitor server performance, availability, and capacity planning.
  • Manage virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, or Azure Virtual Machines).

Network Administration

  • Maintain and troubleshoot LAN/WAN infrastructure, switches, firewalls, and wireless networks.
  • Monitor network performance, bandwidth usage, and connectivity issues.
  • Implement and maintain network security controls, including VLANs, VPNs, and access policies.
  • Support IP addressing, routing, and network segmentation.

Systems Maintenance & Support

  • Perform daily system checks, backups, and disaster recovery testing.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues across servers and endpoints.
  • Maintain documentation for configurations, procedures, and system architecture.
  • Provide Tier 2/3 technical support for escalated issues.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain security best practices across servers and networks.
  • Manage endpoint protection, patch management, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Support compliance with organizational policies, audits, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor logs, alerts, and system events for potential security risks.

Cloud & Modern Infrastructure

  • Support hybrid environments using Azure, Microsoft 365, or other cloud platforms.
  • Manage cloud identity, access, and security configurations.
  • Assist with cloud migrations, modernization projects, and automation initiatives.

Collaboration & Project Support

  • Work closely with IT leadership, application teams, and vendors to support infrastructure needs.
  • Participate in planning and implementing new technologies and system upgrades.
  • Provide recommendations for improving system reliability, performance, and security.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–5 years of experience in system and network administration.
  • Strong experience with Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), Active Directory, and Group Policy.
  • Proficiency with DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, VPN, and firewall technologies.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware or Hyper-V).
  • Familiarity with backup solutions, disaster recovery, and monitoring tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Azure, Microsoft 365, or hybrid cloud environments.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell scripting and automation.
  • Experience with enterprise storage systems (SAN/NAS).
  • Familiarity with security frameworks and compliance standards.
  • Relevant certifications such as:
    • MCSA / MCSE
    • CompTIA Network / Security
    • VMware VCP
    • Azure Administrator (AZ-104)

CONTRACT JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of computer hardware, software, and related infrastructure.
2. Participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.
3. Ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to District policies, standards, and guidelines.
4. Systems administration engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and research and development to ensure continual innovation.
5. Installs new/rebuild existing servers and configures hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
6. Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes.
7. Reviews system and application logs.
8. Verifies completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
9. Performs regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
10. Performs daily backup operations, which include ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media; creating recovery tapes or disks; and recycling media and sending off-site, as necessary.
11. Performs regular file archival and purging, as necessary.
12. Creates, changes, and deletes user accounts per request.
13. Provides Tier III/other support, per request from various constituencies.
14. Investigates and troubleshoots issues.
15. Diagnoses and recovers hardware or software failures.
16. Coordinates and communicates with impacted constituencies.
17. Applies operating system (OS) patches and upgrades on a regular basis
18. Upgrades administrative tools and utilities.
19. Configures/adds new services, as necessary.
20. Upgrades and configures system software that supports infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications per project or operational needs.
21. Maintains operational, configuration, or other procedures.
22. Performs periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
23. Performs ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization, as required.
24. Configures central processing unit (CPU), memory, and disk partitions, as required.
25. Maintains data center environmental and monitoring equipment.

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field or equivalent experience
