THE ROLE:

Corporate responsibility (CR) is an integral aspect of our business and is deeply rooted in our culture. Our efforts span products, operations and supply chain; are prioritized based on risk, opportunities and impacts; and are guided by goals, metrics and accountability. The Senior Manager will drive product energy efficiency initiatives (with a focus on server and data center), support circular economy efforts, and operationalize CR management systems.  

Key activities entail reviewing key national and international product environmental regulations and standards (i.e., energy efficiency, restricted chemicals), proposing regulatory changes and driving related advocacy efforts; assessing priority materials and advancing sustainability principles such as recycled or alternative content and product recycling; and facilitating process-driven accountability measures with internal teams to execute roles and responsibilities.

This position reports to the Senior Director of Corporate Responsibility within the Legal Department. The role entails cross-functional coordination and governance with various internal teams, including Product Business Units, Engineering, Legal (including Government Relations), Supply Chain, and Quality. It interacts with external organizations including industry trade groups, government agencies, standards bodies, customers and suppliers to advance shared interests and outcomes.

THE PERSON:

You are a high-performance professional with a strong track record in product energy efficiency at a multi-national company in the technology sector, preferably in the data center, server or semiconductor space. Ideally you have background in circular economy principles and/or restricted materials as well as knowledge of computer hardware and software sufficient to identify regulatory risks and present solutions to external decision makers based on engineering input. You thrive in fast-paced and dynamic environments, enjoy creating structures that operationalize processes, and excel in cross-functional work teams.

You are process-driven and outcome-oriented with the ability to layout and execute timelines and adapt to evolving priorities. You have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with stakeholders at various levels.

Your advanced communication abilities enable you to listen and learn as you identify and address challenges and opportunities. You are adept at critical and creative thinking to develop and propose clear solutions. Your presentation skills are refined with the ability to succinctly summarize situations, articulate options, and make recommendations. When it comes to execution, you follow through on commitments and/or escalate unforeseen challenges that may require alternative pathways or resources.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Product Energy Efficiency Standards & Regulations 

• • Monitor and track external developments in product energy efficiency regulations and standards that may impact AMD, including: EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), China Energy Label, and U.S. ENERGY STAR
  • Actively participate in industry energy efficiency workgroups including Digital Europe, Information Technology Industry and The Green Grid in the development of standards, ecolabels and regulatory feedback to governments.
  • Coordinate internal product groups and engineering teams (mainly server and client) with Government Relations and Legal to drive or support advocacy as needed with governments and/or industry groups on forthcoming requirements, including gathering input to submit comments, facilitating briefings with governments, customers and/or suppliers to evaluate business impacts and align on desired outcomes.

Circular Economy & Sustainable Materials 

• • Monitor and track external developments related to restricted substances and other product environmental regulations that may impact AMD, including Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH); Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS); per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS); Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR); and Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). Translate these complex developments into simplified actionable regulatory roadmaps and requirements for internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in select industry workgroups addressing product materials and sustainability trends and requirements, including the Semiconductor Industry Association, Digital Europe, and Information Technology Industry Council.
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders to identify and drive strategies to embrace circular economy principles, including product and packaging design, use of recycled content, and alternative materials or chemicals.

Corporate Responsibility (CR) Management Systems

• • Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the CR Management System (ISO aligned) to further integrate CR into business operations, driving accountability and fostering a culture of sustainability across departments.
  • Facilitate quarterly internal risk management processes designed to identify emerging developments and potential business impacts stemming from new requirements across suppliers, customers, and the industry.
  • Support additional CR sustainability initiatives including annual reporting on product energy efficiency and sustainability efforts.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

• Demonstrated experience working in or with multinational corporations, preferably in semiconductor, data center, or broader technology sectors. 
• Strong experience in product energy efficiency regulations and standards, preferably servers.
• Understanding of restricted materials regulations and circular economy principles related to electronics products.
• Excellent skills in written/verbal communication, time management, quantitative/analytical and process documentation  
• Preferred familiarity in engineering, chemistry or related technical fields
• Able to manage multiple projects in parallel in a dynamic environment  
• Influencer willing to drive progress and accountability on long-term, cross functional projects.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

• Bachelors or masters preferred degree in related fields (i.e., engineering, chemistry, business, sustainability/environmental, legal)
