Full-Time | On-Site | Day Shift | $34 – $46 per hour (DOE)
About Us
Advanced Machine and Tooling is a family-owned precision job shop and contract manufacturer serving marine, defense, and industrial customers across Hampton Roads. We machine, fabricate, weld, assemble, and inspect parts in-house under ISO 9001-style quality controls. No two weeks look the same, and the people here make the difference. We want a programmer who likes solving problems and wants to make their mark on a shop, not just be another number.
What You’ll Do
- Write, edit, and prove out CNC programs for mills and lathes, from one-off prototypes through production runs
- Build programs from customer prints, 3D models, and reverse-engineered parts using CAD/CAM software
- Plan setups, workholding, tooling, and cutting strategies to hit tolerance while cutting cycle time
- Support machinists on first-article runs and troubleshoot programs, setups, and quality issues at the machine
- Work with quality to meet print requirements, inspection plans, and first-article documentation
- Keep programs, setup sheets, and tool lists organized and under revision control
- Help quote new work by estimating cycle times and identifying the best way to make a part
- Track jobs and routings in JobBOSS ERP
What We’re Looking For
- 3 years of CNC programming experience in a machine shop or job-shop environment
- Strong CAD/CAM skills (Mastercam Preferred)
- Working knowledge of G-code and hand-editing at the control
- Ability to read complex blueprints, including GD&T
- Solid understanding of tooling, feeds and speeds, fixturing, and a variety of materials (steels, stainless, aluminum, bronze, plastics)
- Comfortable with precision measuring tools (mics, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, CMM a plus)
- Self-starter who can juggle several jobs at once and communicate clearly with the shop floor
Nice to Have
- Multi-axis (4th and 5th) or mill-turn experience
- Marine, shipbuilding, or defense manufacturing experience
- Familiarity with JobBOSS or other shop ERP systems
- Experience with ISO 9001, first-article inspection, or mil-spec work
