What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tier 2 Field & Support Technician position at Advanced IT Support?
About Us
We are a growing Managed Service Provider serving small and mid-sized businesses. We are not a giant help desk where clients are just a ticket number. We are a small, capable team that takes pride in showing up, owning problems, and treating our clients like they matter. We handle everything from day-to-day support to full infrastructure projects, and we believe a small company that cares more can outperform a big one every time.
About the Role
This is a hands-on, two-sided role. When we have onsite work scheduled, you are in the field: running and terminating cable, mounting and configuring access points, hanging network racks, installing camera systems, and getting client infrastructure built right. When there is no onsite work on the board, you are on the help desk handling remote support tickets alongside the rest of the team.
We want to be upfront about that split, because it is the job. If you only want to be in the field, or you only want to sit at a desk, this is not the right fit. The person who thrives here likes both: getting their hands dirty on an install one day and solving a tricky remote issue the next.
You will work closely with our Solutions Engineer on project and deployment work, and you will be a core part of a small team where your work is visible and it matters.
What You'll Do
Field & Infrastructure Work
- Run, terminate, test, and label structured cabling
- Install, mount, and configure wireless access points, including placement and coverage troubleshooting
- Install and configure camera systems, including NVR setup and ongoing troubleshooting
- Install and configure network switches and related infrastructure
- Support project roll-outs and equipment deployments alongside our Solutions Engineer
- Perform onsite troubleshooting when an issue cannot be resolved remotely
Help Desk Support
- Handle Tier 1 and Tier 2 remote support tickets when onsite work is not scheduled
- Troubleshoot Windows, Microsoft 365, endpoints, printers, and common small business applications
- Own your tickets and drive them to resolution rather than letting them sit
- Document work clearly so the next person knows what was done and why
- Communicate status and set clear expectations with clients
What We're Looking For
Required
- 2 to 4 years in an MSP, IT services, or multi-client support environment
- Hands-on structured cabling experience: pulling, terminating, testing, and cleaning up after yourself
- Real experience installing and configuring wireless access points e.g. Ubiquiti, Meraki,
- Experience installing and configuring camera systems and NVRs
- Solid fundamentals across Windows, Microsoft 365, and networking
- Comfortable with physical install work: ladders, ceilings, tight spaces, lifting equipment
- Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and a clean driving record
- Willingness to do help desk work when you are not in the field, and to do it well
Nice to Have
- Low-voltage license or structured cabling certification
- Experience with switches, VLANs, and basic firewall configuration
- Experience with a PSA and RMM platform (ConnectWise is a plus)
- CompTIA A , Network , or similar certifications
What We Offer
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Fully paid health insurance
- Paid time off and paid holidays
- Certification and training reimbursement
- Variety in your work, no two weeks look the same
- A small, supportive team where your work is seen and appreciated
- Room to grow as we grow
Why This Role Matters
On a small team, there is nowhere to hide, and that cuts both ways. Your work is visible, your wins are noticed, and you are not just a number in a queue. If you take pride in doing a clean cable job and closing out a hard ticket with equal care, you will do well here.
