Position Overview
The Systems Engineer Lead provides systems engineering support for technology integration, evaluation of data collection and reduction, instrumentation support, verification/validation/accreditation for testing, and attends pre-test planning meetings.
Responsibilities / Duties
- Lead requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, detail trade studies, CONOP development, systems integration and test (verification), validation and interface definition studies of system, subsystem or system elements.
- Develop Requirements Traceability Verification Matrix
- Develop equipment and system test plans and procedures
- Perform and supervise site surveys and provide documentation in conjunction with and user requirements.
- Research and analyze data, such as vendor products, COTS components, GFE/CFE, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
- Effectively choose the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle to support the generation of technical engineering products.
- Defines processes for technical platforms, system specifications, input/output and working parameters for hardware and/or software compatibility.
- Identifies, analyzes and resolves system design weaknesses.
- Develop technical risk assessments.
- Develop system/sub-system design documentation
- Develop required Bill of Materials (BOMs) / List of Materials (LOMs)
- Lead the implementation of the approved design
- Hands-on experience working with systems, software, and hardware in developing and implementing test plans and procedures.
- Fulfill Test Director or Test Lead position during Acceptance Testing.
- Review CDRL documentation (such as Training Material, Operator and Maintenance Manuals) for accuracy.
- Prepare project close-out documentation, lessons learned, risk close-out and final project information storage, strategic and tactical planning.
- Travel required (Up to 40%) to both State side and Overseas locations
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Systems Engineering preferred; Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and/or Management Engineering are acceptable
- Minimum of five years of experience with military systems
- Minimum of five years of experience in leading teams throughout the systems engineering process
- US Citizen
- Minimum of 2 years working with network device such as Cisco, Juniper, etc.
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Direct experience with Network Switch programming, (VLAN, Security, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience working at all levels of the test and integration process, starting with SW or HW component testing and completing in-system level verification and validation activities.
- Demonstrated success working individually or as part of a team
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to thrive in multi-disciplinary environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience using Microsoft Visio and other Microsoft Office products
- Fluently speak, read, understand, and write the English language
Preferred skills & knowledge
- Software programming experience
- Previous work history with any of the Training and Instrumentation systems under the PEO STRI umbrella
- Systems Engineering certifications
- Familiarity with Microsoft Project
- A Department of Defense Clearance is not required for this role, but would benefit future positions
Physical Demands
- Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
- Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds occasionally and walk short distances.
- Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing: viewing a computer monitor; extensive reading.
