What are the responsibilities and job description for the Founder's Associate position at Advanced Iron Works?
Overview
I’m the founder of a growing metal fabrication and installation company (~$5M revenue, 30 employees), and I’m looking for a sharp, driven individual to work directly with me as a right-hand operator.
This is not a typical assistant role.
You’ll be involved in real business operations—helping me stay focused on high-level decisions by handling execution, research, coordination, and follow-through across projects.
If you’re hungry, reliable, and want to learn how a construction/fabrication business actually runs from the inside, this role can grow into project coordination, project engineering, and eventually project management.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Manage day-to-day tasks that keep operations moving
- Conduct research and deep dives (vendors, materials, processes, pricing, etc.)
- Make calls, send emails, and follow up with clients, vendors, and partners
- Coordinate schedules, logistics, and project timelines
- Keep internal systems updated (project boards, trackers, documentation)
- Anticipate needs and solve problems before they become issues
- Act as an extension of the founder—executing quickly and accurately
What I’m Looking For
- Early-career (or recently graduated), high energy, and eager to learn
- Strong work ethic—you don’t need to be told twice
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Clear communicator (especially written communication)
- Tech/computer savvy (comfortable learning new tools quickly)
- Comfortable picking up the phone and getting things done
- Interest in construction, metal fabrication, or how things are built
- Takes ownership and follows through
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Exposure to construction, trades, or manufacturing
- Basic understanding of drawings, materials, or project workflows
- Experience with tools like Excel, Bluebeam, Solidworks/CAD, etc.
Growth Path
This role is designed for someone who wants more than a job.
High performers in this role can grow into:
- Project Coordinator
- Project Engineer
- Project Manager
You’ll gain direct exposure to real projects, real clients, and real decision-making.
What Matters Most
- Reliability
- Loyalty
- Willingness to learn
- Ability to execute
If you’re looking for a clock-in/clock-out job, this isn’t it.
If you want to build skills, take on responsibility, and grow fast, this is a rare opportunity.
