Role Description The School-Based Mental Health Therapist is a contract, remote role providing individual and group counseling to students, using secure telehealth platforms in coordination with school personnel. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting clinical assessments, developing and implementing treatment plans, delivering evidence-based interventions, and maintaining timely, accurate documentation in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards. The therapist collaborates with teachers, school counselors, and families to support student progress, participates in interdisciplinary meetings, and offers consultation on mental health and behavioral concerns. The role also involves crisis assessment and intervention within established protocols, coordination of referrals to community resources when needed, and adherence to ethical, legal, and confidentiality requirements. The therapist is expected to engage in regular supervision or peer consultation and stay current with best practices in school-based and telehealth mental health care.
Qualifications
- Relevant clinical licensure or eligibility (e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT, LMHC, or equivalent, depending on state requirements) and a master’s degree or higher in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related mental health field.
- Demonstrated proficiency in evidence-based therapeutic modalities for children and adolescents (such as CBT, solution-focused therapy, trauma-informed approaches) and experience in school-based or child/adolescent mental health settings.
- Strong assessment and documentation skills, including conducting biopsychosocial evaluations, developing treatment plans, and maintaining accurate, compliant electronic health records.
- Ability to deliver services via telehealth, including comfort with video platforms, basic troubleshooting, and maintaining privacy and security standards in a remote environment.
