Analyst Position duties and responsibilities include:
- Responsible for the timely setup of methods and samples on instruments as measured by Thruput and Turnaround time
- Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement quality and safety policies and procedures
- Implements strategic business initiatives with the objective of consistently producing accurate test results
- Conducts SOP development, review, edit and as needed
- Manages Method Detection Limits (MDLs) and Demonstration of Capabilities (DOCs) and assures completion throughout lab as required
- Understands operation and theory of all instrumentation in department
- Responsible for troubleshooting, performing preventive maintenance and repairs on instruments as needed
- Effectively manages staff performance; one-on-one meetings, evaluations, and training.
- Coaches and mentors staff and facilitates their personal and professional growth
- Performs data review in Horizon LIMS and assigns peer review groups
- Schedules department work days and hours for all analysts to comply with operational, method, regulatory and client requirements
- Tracks supplies and places purchase orders for/with the Lab Manager
- Assists with duties to manage Health and Safety and Hazardous Waste program
- Develops methods for new analyses
- Special projects, research, method performance improvements
- Attend and provide updates for daily status meetings
- Helps in the process of hiring and training both new and existing employees
- Works with other DMs in network
- Provides timely responses to internal and external inquiries related to quality and production
- Maintains high data quality, works with QA and performs well in audits
- Establish and maintain effective communication with staff
Requirements:
- BA or BS Degree in Chemistry, Biology, or some science field
- Five (5) or more years' experience in a commercial environmental laboratory certified under TNI or equivalent program
Previous experience preferred. Experience must have been in a commercial environmental laboratory certified under NELAP/TNI or an equivalent State program. College course work, grant work, or research work will not count toward this experience requirement.
Additional Selection / Hiring Information:
- Experience with Horizon LIMS, Thermo ICP, Seal Segmented Flow Analyzer, Metrohm IC, and other bench chemistry instruments.
- Employer will perform testing: standard written test of basic chemistry, math, EPA/DEP/DOH methods, and questions to test industry knowledge.
- Reference checks will be conducted.
- College transcript is required prior to employment.

COURIER POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promptly respond to requests to pick up or deliver samples or supplies
- Follow specific sample transporting procedures given by the facility
- Responsible for picking up and transporting hazardous materials
- Complete documentation for accurate record of travel and client visits
- Maintain vehicle in clean and safe condition
- Must comply with safety driving regulations in accordance with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)
- Plan trips for effective use of time to meet client needs
- Remain compliant with all driver procedures, certifications, and AEL company driver policies
- Communicate with the lab leads to ensure samples are delivered in a safe, timely and efficient manner
- Keep track of mileage and gasoline
- Other job duties as determined by local management
SAMPLE RECEIVER POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receives and unloads incoming samples or consignments in accordance with DOT regulations and verifies receipt against Chain of Custody (COC), matches it to the corresponding quote and notes discrepancies daily. Verifies that COC's are accurate, complete, and correct and seeks resolution for those that are not.
- Review and completion of Chain of Custody documentation
- Verify preservation and sample receipt condition
- Communication with client services and project managers regarding sample receipt issues
- Logs samples into Horizon Lab Information Management System (LIMS) daily to assign a workorder (WO) number for tracking purposes and distributes paperwork to Project Managers.
- Labels samples so they may be identified by the WO/sample number
- Assigns and delivers samples to appropriate labs or storage for analysis daily.
- May perform courier duties as necessitated to support lab and client needs.
- Represents AEL in a positive way by conducting daily client interaction in an appropriate and professional manner.
- Kit preparation and timely shipment of kits to clients
- Sample disposal according to procedures
- Inventory of supplies for sample kits
- Tracking, cleaning and decontamination of coolers
- Coordinates shipments to sub-labs and sister labs
- May assist with project management of ice testing and Walk-In clients
