Overview of Position
Advanced Engineering Consultants (AEC) is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer/Project Manager with 10 years of experience to lead the design and coordination of electrical systems for commercial and institutional construction projects. In this role, you will focus on developing power distribution, lighting, and low-voltage system designs from concept through construction documentation while collaborating with multidisciplinary design teams.
The Senior Electrical Engineer will play a key role in technical leadership, project delivery, and mentoring junior staff, ensuring designs meet applicable codes, project requirements, and client expectations.

Position Responsibilities
Supervise and mentor staff, and self-perform the following:
- Preparation of construction documents for electrical systems for commercial, healthcare, educational, and institutional buildings.
- Prepare electrical calculations and develop power distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, panelboards, feeders, and branch circuits.
- Develop electrical one-line diagrams, panel schedules, load calculations, and power studies.
- Design and coordinate emergency and standby power systems, including generators and UPS systems.
- Support design of low-voltage systems such as fire alarm, communications, and security infrastructure.
- Design interior and exterior lighting systems, including photometric analysis and energy-compliant lighting layouts and lighting controls.
- Coordinate with internal and external subconsultants of other disciplines, such as architects, mechanical and plumbing engineers, etc. for equipment power and control needs
- Perform field verification of existing systems for renovation projects.
- Write and edit technical specifications to reflect the project requirements.
- Communication with manufacturer representatives to determine solutions for specific applications.
- Prepare design deliverables for various owners required submittals, i.e., SD, DD, CD level documents.
- Perform project construction administration including response to RFI’s, review of submittals, preparation of bulletins, review of contactor change orders, field visits and punch trips for installation verification.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
Project and client management, serving as lead electrical engineer on projects from schematic design through construction administration.
Prepare proposals for various clients as either the lead A/E or sub-consultant.
Coordinate with company team leads for planning use of resources and completing projects within budgeted times.
Review designs prepared by others as part of AEC’s QA/QC process.
Maintain internal design standards and quality control procedures.
Participate in meetings with clients, authorities having jurisdiction, and other professionals as projects require.
Conduct business development activities, participating in various trade organizations, and preparing or assisting with presentations.
Job Requirements/Qualifications
Must Have:
- 10 or more years of electrical design and project management in consulting engineering.
- Demonstrated experience with power distribution and lighting systems for buildings.
- Working knowledge of design and analysis software such as Revit, AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP, Easypower, Visual, etc.
- PE License.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- Strong knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and other applicable electrical codes, NFPA guidelines and codes, and energy codes.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with electrical system studies such as short circuit, over-current device coordination, and Arc Flash Hazard analysis per NPFA 70E.
- Ability to instruct and guide staff in project communications, and client management.
- Proficient knowledge of standard construction practices and the ability to work with contractors to address construction issues.
- Experience in designing Federal DOD, State, Municipal, Healthcare, Commercial, Public Sector, Education, and/or Institutional projects.
