ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Clinical activities that may be requested: facilitation of substance use groups, discharge planning, and substance use screening and counseling during incarceration

Assess participants utilizing NIDA compliant tools

Identifies risk factors of substance use, withdrawal, intoxication, overdose, and relapse
-
Engages in relapse prevention efforts, including psychoeducation, coping skills development, and community referrals
-
Develops strategies to manage triggers and trauma history
-
Provide substance use screening and counseling of detainees referred by facility staff, medical, or as identified by the courts
-
Refer identified detainees, who may benefit from behavioral health intervention to onsite qualified mental health professional
-
Coordinate with custody and medical staff in the management and treatment of detainees with identified risk of withdrawal and those eligible for MAT services
-
Coordinate with county behavioral health services for continuity of care, prevention efforts, and discharge planning via sharing of pertinent patient information

Complete documentation of assessment and treatment, as well as maintain records for referral tracking and CQI.

Maintains records, prepares reports, and composes correspondence relative to the work.

Create and maintain high performance standards in all aspects of program

Facilitate training, if needed

Perform related duties as necessary to the operation of the facility’s programs

Act as liaison with other service providers, both in the agency and in the outside treatment community, as needed

Any and all other duties as assigned

High School diploma; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred, from an accredited college
-
Current licensure with clinical specialty from the appropriate state licensing board
-
Active CPR certification
-
Experience in individual and group counseling preferred
-
Two plus years’ experience counseling people with substance abuse challenges OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job

Knowledge and training in substance abuse and related health issues (i.e., HIV, Hepatitis C, etc.) and recovery protocols including the 12 step programs

Knowledge of the local treatment community and referrals

Excellent communication skills

Experience with medication assisted treatment (MAT) preferred

Commitment to abide by standards of professional ethics and maintain confidentiality, including confidentiality

Must be able to practice independently
