What are the responsibilities and job description for the Licensed Practical Nurse - Part Time Nights position at Advanced Correctional Healthcare?

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Understands and performs work within the LPN’s scope of practice

Timely and accurately plan and deliver nursing care to patients

Check and record vital signs, peak flows, blood glucose checks, weight, and other diagnostic tests on-site, when appropriate

Prioritize intake screenings (completed by correctional officers) for necessity and priority at sick call
-
Provide patient education on topics such as the correctional facility’s policies and discharge planning
-
Administer prescribed medication, treatments and other tasks as ordered by the practitioner

Record information in chronic clinic and outcome study documents as indicated
-
Provide emergency first aid care, as appropriate
-
Report reactions to treatments and medications, as well as changes in the patients’ emotional or physical condition
-
Collect and record data for CQI (continuous quality improvement) reporting
-
Record care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms

Collaborate and coordinate multiple medical services for diagnosis and treatment, as directed by the practitioner

Maintain and demonstrate working knowledge of pharmacology, including drug reaction/overdose
-
Maintain and demonstrate working knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutrition
-
Collaborate with the medical and security staff to coordinate on- and off-site medical services for diagnosis and treatment as directed by the practitioner
-
Utilizes Universal Precautions as a mechanism for infection prevention and control
-
Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA practices as required by government agencies
-
Notify supervisor of medical and security incidents

Present/participate in in-service education sessions

May be asked to cover shifts at other ACH clients’ correctional facilities.

May be asked to train new hires and coworkers

Any and all other duties as assigned

Active nursing license in the state in which services are to be provided, in good standing
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; hands-on training
-
Excellent documentation skills

Knowledge of the LPN scope of practice
