Job Description
Job Title: CDL Driver
Purpose of the Position:
Prepare documentation, maintain records, coordinate logistics for product shipment interplant, and drive company vehicle to and from designated locations carrying out courier functions.
Essential job functions:
- Maintain shipping records, including providing tracking or shipping history information to customers on request with established forms and procedures.
- Collect Transfer Log and Shipping paperwork as well as provide documents to Materials Supervisors to complete shipping transactions in appropriate systems.
- Provide guidance to others within the Shipping/Receiving area, as well as communications of requirements and their changes.
- Communicate status of Shipping/Receiving activities to appropriate personnel and customers.
- Verify shipping output documents as required.
- Formally document new or changed procedures. Identify who requires training and execute training if needed, through Materials Supervisors.
- Effectively provide cross-functional root cause and corrective action information, inputs, and findings, to resolve internal customer-related shipping issues.
- Review manuals for small equipment, trucks, and trailers for interplant use.
- Train new employees on processing, loading, and shipment of materials and equipment according to DOT and ACSI requirements.
- Drive company vehicle to carry out intra-company courier functions including hot shot deliveries to and from other designated locations
- Keep assigned vehicle and shop trailer free from damage, in acceptable condition, and consistently clean utilizing Daily Operator check sheets that include Operator PMCS
- Ensure that the vehicle and trailer are in proper and safe condition prior to use, and accept responsibility to report any damage or mechanical malfunctions that exist
- Manage various products and merchandise responsibly while in the act of loading, unloading, or transporting items, ensuring that cargo is properly secured to avoid damage
- Use approved instructions on loading, strapping, securing, tie downs and locks for all materials transported in company trucks, trailers, pickups and forklifts
Marginal job functions:
- Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to provide back-up support for Forklift Driver and Material Handling functions, training new employees on various job-related functions and answer other internal customer service related calls.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- High school diploma, general education degree or equivalent
- Possess and maintain an active Class A (CDL) driver's license
- Knowledge of shipping, commercial driving and customer service principles and practices
- Knowledge of relevant computer applications
- Ability to type
- Knowledge of administrative procedures
- Numeric, oral and written language applications
- Product knowledge

Physical Demands:
Hours: 8 per day 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Week: 40 hrs minimum
Overtime hours worked must be pre-approved by management.
Lunch: 30 minutes
Sitting: 50 % of time Standing & Walking: 50 % of time
