What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scientist II position at Advanced Clinical?
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Scientist II (Contractor) to join a well-known client’s team in Santa Clara, CA. This role will support the development of RUO and CE IVD/IVD products for next-generation sequencing (NGS) platforms.
The Scientist II will contribute to the development and implementation of R&D strategies across NGS workflows, including nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, sequencing, and data analysis. This position offers the opportunity to work in a design-controlled environment, supporting innovative assay and product development in a collaborative, fast-paced setting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Laboratory Execution
• Plan and execute hands-on laboratory experiments with minimal supervision and strong attention to detail.
• Design and perform early-stage development studies, including assay optimization, troubleshooting, reagent selection, and characterization.
• Apply scientific knowledge to recommend innovative approaches and study designs based on experimental findings.
• Formulate reagents, buffers, and materials in accordance with established SOPs.
• Operate automated liquid handlers and NGS sequencing instruments.
Data & Documentation
• Accurately document experimental methods, materials, and results in electronic or paper laboratory notebooks.
• Analyze experimental data using established tools and summarize findings clearly.
• Present results and project updates to internal teams and stakeholders.
• Prepare technical summaries and contribute to verification documentation and reports.
• Assist in authoring and revising SOPs and technical documentation.
• Maintain traceability of materials and documentation within design control processes, including support for Design History Files (DHF).
Quality & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with ISO 13485, QSR, and internal quality systems.
• Follow laboratory safety policies and OSHA guidelines.
• Participate in design control activities and ensure accuracy and quality of deliverables.
Lab Operations
• Maintain laboratory equipment and support calibration and maintenance activities.
• Manage reagent inventory and ensure proper storage and handling.
• Support general laboratory organization and operations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide experimental data and technical support.
EXPERIENCE
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant laboratory experience with a Bachelor’s degree (less with an advanced degree).
• Strong experience in molecular biology techniques, including PCR, qPCR, nucleic acid extraction, and library preparation.
• Hands-on experience with NGS workflows preferred, including target enrichment and sequencing.
• Experience in assay development, optimization, and validation preferred.
• Strong data analysis and scientific documentation skills.
• Experience working in a regulated or design-controlled environment preferred.
EDUCATION
• Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field required.
• Master’s or PhD preferred.
