Our classes combine traditional yoga practice with medically informed orthopedic training principles for injury prevention, fall reduction, and overall wellness.
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Lead Medically Informed Yoga Instructor to join our dynamic health and fitness team. This role involves designing and leading specialized yoga programs that integrate medical insights to promote holistic wellness. - Position Overview
We are seeking a Lead Yoga Instructor to launch and lead our Yoga/Ortho program. This individual will design and teach safe, engaging classes that serve clients of all ages and abilities, with a strong emphasis on mobility, stability, and functional movement. The Lead Instructor will also collaborate with physical therapists, support program growth, and help build a vibrant wellness community
- Lead engaging group yoga classes, ensuring proper technique, safety, and modifications for all skill levels.
- Incorporate knowledge of physiology, anatomy, body mechanics, and health sciences to enhance class effectiveness and safety.
- Educate clients on the benefits of yoga for physical health, mental well-being, and injury prevention.
- Collaborate with other fitness professionals to integrate yoga into broader fitness or rehabilitation programs such as Pilates, CrossFit, cycling, or sports coaching.
- Maintain a safe and welcoming environment in the gym or health club setting.
- Stay current with latest research in fitness science, anatomy, and medical considerations related to yoga practice.
- Promote programs to increase participation and support fitness sales initiatives.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior instructors or staff members as needed.
Responsibilities
Instruction:
- Teach 6 weekly yoga/balance classes (60 minutes each) with modifications for varying skill levels.
- Provide safe, inclusive, and engaging instruction that aligns with physical therapy principles.
- Arrive early to prepare the studio space and remain after class to engage with participants.
Program Support:
- Collaborate with PT staff to integrate injury prevention strategies.
- Track attendance and participant progress.
- Provide input on program growth and new class offerings.
Community Engagement:
- Lead or assist in open houses, free demo classes, and quarterly specialty workshops.
- Engage with members to encourage consistency and retention.
- Participate in occasional marketing initiatives (social media, photoshoots, testimonials).
Teamwork:
- Attend bi-weekly team meetings.
- Communicate effectively with clinic staff about participant needs.
- Help train substitute instructors as needed.
Qualifications
- Certified Yoga Instructor (RYT-200 minimum; RYT-500 preferred).
- Minimum 1-2 years of group yoga instruction experience.
- Experience teaching older adults, beginners, or those with mobility limitations preferred.
- Willing to learn Medically informed asana practices and certification
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Comfort working alongside healthcare providers and adapting classes for safety.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
