What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bookkeeper position at Advanced Accounting Consultants, LLC?
Our dynamic, growing accounting firm is currently seeking a detail-oriented full-time bookkeeper to join our accounting firm. This individual must have prior experience working within a public accounting environment and possess a strong understanding of full-cycle bookkeeping and client service.
We pride ourselves on being a friendly, hardworking team. Our office is paperless, as we feel it just as important to keep up with current technology as it is the evolving accounting and tax laws. This position is for someone who enjoys the prospect of variety and opportunity for growth.
Interested only in a candidate that will be team-oriented with a desire to assist both staff members and clients, with the ability to work independently as well.
The below list are necessary expectations for this position in addition to 4 years of experience:
Client Communication & Intake
- Gather, organize, and verify financial records from clients.
- Understand each client's business structure (LLC, S Corp, Nonprofit, etc.).
- Communicate clearly regarding missing data, deadlines, or discrepancies.
Transaction Entry and Categorization
- Record and classify income, expenses, and other transactions.
- Maintain proper account coding (per client chart of accounts).
- Understand cash vs accrual distinctions and client-specific preferences.
Bank and Credit Card Reconciliation
- Match transactions to bank and credit card statements.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Reconcile multiple accounts per client on a monthly basis.
Accounts Payable & Receivable (as applicable)
- Track and enter vendor bills and payments.
- Manage client invoicing, posting receipts, and aging reports.
Payroll Journal Entries / Cleanup
- Post payroll entries from payroll providers accurately.
- Reclassify wages, taxes, benefits, and owner draws correctly.
Sales Tax & Local Tax Awareness
- Assist in tracking and categorizing sales appropriately.
- Support sales tax reporting by maintaining accurate records.
Month-End Close
- Ensure all transactions for the period are entered and reconciled.
- Generate clean trial balances ready for review by senior accountants.
- Document any unresolved issues.
Software Proficiency & Workflow Management
- Use QuickBooks Online and Desktop efficiently (must-have).
- Use practice management tools (Jetpack, Canopy, etc.) to manage deadlines
- Organize file uploads and keep documentation audit-ready.
Financial Statement Preparation
- Generate basic financial reports: P&L, Balance Sheet, GL Detail.
- Identify misclassifications or red flags prior to review.
Collaboration with CPAs & Tax Preparers
- Provide clean books and answers to questions for tax prep.
- Respond to review comments and make adjustments timely.
- Understand how bookkeeping affects tax planning and compliance.
