CNC Setup Technician – Dual Spindle Lathe
Job Summary
The CNC Setup Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, and optimizing CNC dual spindle lathes to produce precision parts that meet quality, safety, and productivity standards. This role focuses on machine setup, tooling, fixturing, offsets, and first‐article approval, working closely with programmers and quality personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Setup & Operation
- Perform complete setups on CNC dual spindle lathes, including main/sub spindle synchronization
- Load and verify CNC programs (G‐code), ensuring correct revisions are used
- Set tools, work offsets, wear offsets, and part zeroes
- Install and tooling, holders, collets, chucks, bar feeders, and part catchers
Process Optimization
- Troubleshoot setup, tooling, and machining issues
- Optimize cycle times, feeds, speeds, and tool life while maintaining quality
- Assist with process improvements and standardization
- Work with programmers to refine programs and setup documentation
Quality & Documentation
- Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and work instructions
- Use precision measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, comparators, etc.)
- Ensure parts meet dimensional and surface finish requirements
- Complete setup sheets, inspection records, and production documentation
Safety & Maintenance
- Work in accordance with safety procedures and shop policies
- Perform basic machine maintenance and daily inspections
- Maintain a clean and organized work area (5S)
Required Qualifications
- 2 years of CNC setup experience on lathes (dual spindle experience preferred)
- Strong understanding of G‐code and CNC controls
- Ability to independently set up complex jobs from prints and setup sheets
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools
- Solid understanding of cutting tools and inserts
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with live tooling, Y‐axis, or mill‐turn machines
- Experience with bar‐fed production
- Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC)
- Prior experience in a high‐mix, low‐to‐medium volume environment

- Pay: $26 to $35 an hour
