Short-Form Video Producer

NJ.com is looking for a Short-Form Video Producer who is a passionate storyteller that speaks the language of TikTok — someone who can create engaging, informative video for our social audiences and turn New Jersey news and national trending stories into daily content that resonates.

This is a content-creator-first role — someone who can find and tell their own stories. We're looking for someone who understands how to spark conversation, build engagement, and grow an audience natively on social platforms — with a particular focus on connecting with viewers aged 18–30. Candidates should be native, fluent users of TikTok and/or Instagram, with the news judgment to know what's worth covering and the instincts to know how to make it work on those platforms.

This position is part of the award-winning NJ.com team of video producers, working closely with social media producers, reporters, and editors, and reports to the Video Manager, to bring our journalism to audiences where they already are. The base salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000 annually.

This position requires reliable transportation to meet with sources, cover events, and attend last-minute shoots when news breaks.

What you’ll be doing:

• Research, pitch, shoot, script, edit, and publish compelling news and feature videos.
• Embrace versatility in video styles — text-on-screen explainers, interviews, or live coverage — with a focus on growing our 18–30 year old audience.
• Cover newsworthy N.J. events and turn around a short-form video the same day.
• Contribute to the newsroom's broader video needs, including projects and shooting breaking news or live video.
• Plan and execute live streams to Facebook.
• Post video according to best practices across brand social platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook.

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

• A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum of 2 years of experience creating and publishing video content on TikTok and/or Instagram; experience doesn't need to come from a traditional newsroom, but candidates should demonstrate strong news judgment.
• Experience growing a social media audience — starting conversations, earning trust, and building engagement over time.
• Solid understanding of editing tools such as CapCut, Instagram Edits, or Adobe Premiere, and collaborative tools like Google Drive.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to write clean, concise scripts and execute videos in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong audio recording abilities, a plus.
• Fluency in a second language, a plus.
