This is a hybrid position in Jersey City, New Jersey. This role requires to be on location in our Jersey City office one to two days per week or more often as needed.
The Infrastructure Engineer collaborates with others to scale and secure our web and data platforms. This position builds cloud infrastructure across Amazon Web Service (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), using tools like GitLab and Terraform to automate deployments and embed security in delivery. This role blends cloud engineering, developer enablement, and security-minded practices to deliver reliable and well-governed systems.
The base salary range is $120,000 to $130,000 per year.
What you’ll be doing:
Infrastructure Ownership & Security Posture
- Drive security and governance efforts across AWS and GCP by managing accounts, projects, and org-level policies.
- Define guardrails and patterns for data platform operations, aligning access models, design, and secure integrations with enterprise security goals.
- Contribute to strategies that surface misconfigurations, misuse, and access risks across cloud environments.
- Support our enterprise web infrastructure, including DNS configuration, CDN management, and website deployment and troubleshooting.
Access and Observability
- Help implement secure access management practices across cloud and data platforms, with a focus on systems like GitLab, AWS, and Snowflake.
- Support security goals through secret rotation and centralized logging across environments.
- Shape our observability strategy so teams get reliable signals for performance, cost, and security.
Software Development Lifecycle
- Support GitLab management, including CI/CD workflows, repo structure, and security architecture.
- Develop scripts and automations in Python and Bash to support day-to-day operations.
- Use Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Cloudformation, etc) to provision and maintain our infrastructure components.
Security Governance & Resilience
- Coordinate with the Data Governance team to facilitate audits and support security-related data practices.
- Drive security improvements across our key platforms to meet enterprise compliance goals.
- Help shape disaster recovery and continuity practices to improve infrastructure resilience.
To be considered for this role, you should have:
- Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering or equivalent practical work experience
- Minimum five years’ experience building/running multi-account cloud platforms in production, with three or more years on AWS or GCP
- Three or more years owning CI/CD pipelines (GitLab/GitHub), artifact/security gates, and release automation
- Demonstratable experience supporting enterprise web infrastructure, DNS, and CDNs.
- Hands-on IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation), monitoring, and incident response
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to work cross-functionally with developers, security teams and product managers
- Ability to troubleshoot complex systems, think critically and propose scalable solutions
- Comfortable working in agile environments and participating in sprint planning, retrospectives and stand-ups
- Proven track record shipping cross-functional projects; excellent written/verbal communications
- Security-first mindset with a focus on embedding governance and compliance into infrastructure
- Familiarity with cloud security best practices, identity and access management, and secrets management
- Proficiency in Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages
- Experience in a large news/media organization and modern data platforms like Snowflake and DBT a plus
General office environment. Extensive computer use required.
