Advance Group Inc
Manhattan, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 7/29/2026

New York-based government relations, lobbying, and political consulting firm, is seeking a Communications Manager to support media strategy, message development, and press outreach for our clients across government affairs, political campaigns, and public affairs sectors.

About the Role

This position sits at the intersection of strategic communications and political know-how. You'll help shape narratives, draft press materials, manage media relationships, and support client-facing communications strategy for a diverse roster of clients: from elected officials and campaigns to real estate, nonprofit, and corporate clients navigating New York's political landscape.

What You'll Do

  • Draft press releases, talking points, op-eds, statements, and briefing materials for clients and firm leadership
  • Pitch and place stories with NYC and Albany press covering government, politics, and policy
  • Monitor daily political and media coverage relevant to client interests
  • Support crisis communications and rapid response as needed
  • Coordinate press events, interviews, and media availability for clients
  • Draft social media content and messaging guidance
  • Collaborate with account leads on integrated communications strategy

What We're Looking For

  • 3 years of experience in political communications, press relations, campaign press work, or political journalism
  • Existing relationships with NYC and/or Albany political press — ideal candidates include former political reporters, campaign press secretaries, or government press office staff with active source relationships
  • Strong writing skills — able to translate complex policy or political dynamics into clear, quotable messaging
  • Sound judgment and discretion; comfort working with sensitive, high-stakes client matters
  • Familiarity with the New York political and media landscape (City Hall, Albany, borough politics)
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple client priorities simultaneously

Preferred Background

  • Prior experience as a reporter, press secretary, or communications staffer for a NYC or NY State campaign, elected official, or government office
  • Existing beat relationships with outlets such as Politico NY, City & State, The City, Gothamist, NY1, Spectrum News, or the Daily News/Post political desks
