Adult Education Instructor

POSITION TITLE:  Adult Education Instructor

FLSA: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Director of Adult Education

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 days with benefits and specified in the employee contract.

The incumbent will work regular school hours Monday-Thursday, two nights a week, and one summer session.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

• Teach the course curriculum as outlined for and other instructional educational training programs developed for adults.
• Teaching assignments to include one or more of the following: Distance Learning, English as Second Language, and Adult Basic Education. 
• Build knowledge and develop clinical skills aimed at assisting students to obtain credentials
• Maintain accurate records on all students, including but not limited to attendance records, schedules and course requirements regarding hours of instruction and content.
• Assist the director of Adult Ed in recruiting students for their programs, and assist with implementing new programs
• Evaluate and document students’ progress through testing, observation, and assessment of skills attained.
• Communicate effectively with students, and all those affiliated with the course, including staff at any training facilities, and prospective employers.
• Provide a stimulating environment that encourages student participation, interpersonal skills development, and concepts of good patient care.
• Maintain a monthly time sheet and turn in at required deadlines.
• Work as a team team with advisors, career coaches, and SNAP case manager to assist students in obtaining available benefits and potential employment.
• Ability to perform physical work with patients and students in a clinical setting, if applicable.
• Ability to work nights. 
• Carries out duty as assigned, including after-school or before-school duties
• Supervises students on recess, bus, during before and after school duty, on field trips, extracurricular events, and in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day
• Ability to work with diverse populations.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Skilled in teaching adult learners.
• Maintains prompt and regular attendance and demonstrates the ability to maintain positive professional working relationships with others
• Maintain emotional control under stress.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Adult Education Director.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS   

• Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, occasional reaching above the head or  the shoulders, bending, squatting.
