Position Summary

The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) has the responsibility of providing nursing care services for patients in the operating room in an excellent and safe manner. This team member ensures the highest quality of patient care in compliance with professional nursing and regulatory standards of care.  A successful OR RN at EMC is proficient in the following specialties: spine, total joints, sports medicine, and pain management.  

Position Specific Duties

• Works collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to maintain the standards of professional nursing in a clinical setting. 
• Collect comprehensive data on patient health. 
• Ensure all physician orders are documented and carried out appropriately and timely. 
• Integrate patient care standards in all clinical activities; participate in performance improvement activities to improve patient safety, quality of care, and patient outcomes. 
• Provide compassionate, professional, and quality patient care. 
• Respond to others’ priorities regarding safety, physical, psychological, and social needs. 
• Listen to and consider others. Is reliable, available, and attentive; promote a supportive and team-oriented environment.  
• Demonstrates adherence and participation in the hospital and department safety programs.  
• Reports to necessary clinical areas promptly and ensures the operating room and supplies are prepared for surgery.  
• Communicates effectively with management to ensure optimal surgical efficiency.  
• Quickly adapts to patient and surgeon needs in the operating room.  
• Performs other duties as required.   

Minimum Requirements   

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program. 
• Active RN license in Texas. 
• Active BLS and ACLS. 
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks appropriately.  
• Exert up to 50lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 20lbs frequently.  
• Stand for 8 hours per day  
• Walk for 8 hours per day  
• 2 years OR nursing experience 
• Ability to communicate in a professional manner
