Job Title: QA Lab Technician II

Work Timing: Sunday - Thursday, 9:30 PM to 5:00 AM
Primary Skills: Manufacturing | Quality | Testing | Audit | Compliance
Position Summary
• Shift: 3rd Shift (9:30 PM - 5:00 AM, Sunday through Thursday)
• Training: Candidate will train for two weeks on day shift (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM) before moving to the grave shift.
• Flexibility: Must be flexible for potential overtime on Friday into Saturday with advance notice.
• Duration: 30 days temp-to-perm. If hired full-time, the employee must join the onsite union.
• Eligibility: Candidates with limited work authorization will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
• Sampling, testing, plating, reading, and recording product test results.
• Ensuring that daily records are well kept and maintained.
• Performing data entry and tracking of test data.
• Conducting internal audits.
• Following hold procedures for products that do not meet specifications.
• Adhering to and following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Working flexible hours and performing overtime when necessary to meet operational needs.
• Calibrating and troubleshooting lab equipment.
• Participating in preparation for all inspections.
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
• Performing other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, or related science, or equivalent experience preferred.
• 1-2 years of experience in a similar role; candidates with 5 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Food manufacturing experience required.
• Dairy industry experience strongly preferred.
• Must ensure Safeway policies, procedures, and workplace safety requirements are adhered to.
• Skilled in performing lab testing procedures such as microbial plating, component analysis, and environmental swabbing.
• Ability to inspect equipment and plant areas to ensure sanitation and regulatory compliance standards are met.
• Capable of performing sensory analysis on milk and other products produced at the plant.
• Excellent organizational skills, initiative, and flexibility.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills; must know when to escalate issues to management.
• Strong documentation and communication (oral/written) skills.
• Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision.
• Proficient in Windows-based PC programs.
• Knowledge of HACCP, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Good Sanitation Practices (GSP).
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Strong time management skills to balance daily workload with additional assignments and projects.
