PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Kindergarten-3rd grade teachers are required to attend the reading academies to grow their knowledge, understanding, and systematic use of effective, research-based, and scientifically validated reading instruction methods for students.  The District Literacy Coach will provide leadership, job-embedded coaching, and training for prekindergarten-3rd grade teachers to ensure the effective implementation of all strategies taught in the reading academies.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

  • Master’s degree in education administration, curriculum and instruction, or teaching
  • Master Reading Teacher certification preferred.
  • Principal’s certification, preferred.
  • Certified T-TESS appraiser, preferred.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Thorough demonstrated knowledge of K – 5 ELAR TEKS and curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness.
  • Ability to provide targeted feedback to teachers based on walkthroughs and observations.
  • Ability to effectively co-teach and/or model ELAR-based lessons.
  • Ability to manage budget and scheduling.
  • Ability to coordinate district trainings.
  • Ability to present effective and engaging staff development.
  • Ability to facilitate PLCs.
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret data.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to facilitate and manage grant submissions accurately and on time.
  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years experience as a classroom teacher with experience teaching literacy
  • Literacy coaching experience
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and/or lead professional development opportunities.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Provide job-embedded coaching and training to Pre-K-3rd grade teachers.
  2. Train, collaborate with, and foster reflection among Pre-K-3rd grade teachers regarding the reading instruction provided to students.
  3. Apply research and data to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching-learning process.
  4. Plan the necessary time, resources, and materials to support the accomplishment of the district’s literacy goals.
  5. Actively support the efforts of others to achieve literacy goals, objectives, and campus performance objectives.
  6. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine the effectiveness of the implementation of The Science of Teaching Reading strategies.
  7. Provide effective and engaging staff development and required coaching activities/trainings.
  8. Implement policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in curriculum and instruction area.
  9. Compile, maintain, and present all reports, records, and other documents required.
  10. Review and analyze data, including student achievement data, to examine instructional program effectiveness.
  11. Model behaviors that ensure the development of a district team, focused on problem-solving and meeting student needs.
  12. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible and serve as a role model for all district staff.
  13. Actively seek training and information, which will enhance skills and knowledge, related to responsibilities.
  14. Maintain records of early literacy professional development attendance (sign-in sheets, Eduphoria attendance records).

Policy, Reports, and Law

  1. Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in curriculum and instruction area.
  2. Compile, maintain, and present all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

Community Relations

  1. Articulate the district’s mission, instructional philosophy, and curriculum implementation strategies to the community and solicit its support in realizing the district’s mission.
  2. Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities.
  3. Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community involvement.

Budget

  1. Ensure that selected programs/materials are cost-effective, and funds are managed prudently.
  2. Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.

Communication

  1. Provide for two-way communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and the community.
  2. Demonstrate skill in conflict resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, staff, and the community.
  3. Monitor professional research and disseminate ideas and information to other professionals.

Other

  1. Perform other duties as assigned.

**The State Board for Educator Certification will require all first-time applicants for an initial credential to be fingerprinted as part of a national criminal background check. A cost of up to $49. 00 will be charged for fingerprinting.
