What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Admiral Packaging?
Controller (Future CFO in Training?)
Providence, RI | On-site | Full-Time
Admiral Packaging is looking for a sharp, motivated Controller to step into the financial shoes of our retiring CFO. This role is perfect for someone with accounting experience who’s ready to grow and be a critical part of our operation—but without needing to bring decades of C-suite experience to the table.
You’ll have room to develop, a team that’s got your back, and a front-row seat to a business that’s proud to make packaging that actually makes a difference.
What You'll Do
You'll take the wheel on day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, and key operational finance functions like:
· Own the monthly close process and deliver financial statements for Admiral and our related businesses.
· Work with our CPA for year-end reviews and tax planning.
· Manage accounts payable: Sign weekly check runs and manage cash flow.
· Manage accounts receivables: Approve credit, manage difficult accounts, identify reserves and collect
delinquent accounts.
· Responsible for Payroll
· Prepare annual budgets and overhead planning.
· Prepare board reports, financial metrics, and internal controls.
· Handle bank reconciliations, reporting, and financial compliance.
· Manage health and property insurance for the companies.
· Responsible for 401K compliance and administration
· Collaborate on pricing, quoting, and inventory analysis.
· Support ERP integrations and accounting systems upgrades.
· Help lead vendor management and risk mitigation strategies.
· Work directly with regulatory agencies (EPA, RI DEM, Narragansett Bay Commission etc.) to complete surveys,
secure permits, and ensure compliance.
· Manage our relationships with legal representation. Review contracts and have a keen eye for details.
What You Bring
We’re not looking for someone who’s done everything—we’re looking for someone who’s eager to learn, dig in, and take responsibility.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
- 3–7 years in accounting, financial analysis, or related fields
- A strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience with Excel, financial management software and accounting/ERP systems
- Comfort working across teams and departments (and wearing many hats)
- An eye for detail, with the confidence to ask the right questions
- Bonus points if you’ve worked in a manufacturing environment
