Pursuant to Superior Court Operating Procedure 65.3, the Reporter is an administrative and managerial member of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. This is a department head position that also supervises and manages a team of employees.
Typical Duties
The duties of the Reporter are specifically set forth in Superior Court Operating Procedure 65.3. In addition to those duties, more specific details about the daily duties of the position are set forth below.
  • Monitor Pennsylvania Appellate Court Case Management System (“PACMS”) entries.
  • Compile the Court’s statistical reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Maintain the Court’s official publications.
  • Post content to the Superior Court Opinion page on the UJS website.
  • Respond to requests for caseload information.
  • Prepare instructional documentation regarding PACMS updates and training.
  • Report the Court’s statistical information to the National Center for State Courts.
  • Create the Reporter’s Digest.
  • Maintain the Court’s Internal Operating Procedures, distribute updates as needed, and publish Operating Procedures.
Additionally, the Court reporter will also be required to do the following as the need arises:
  • Provide guidance on how to process cases through PACMS on orders and decisions that are unclear.
  • Answer questions for staff when they arise.
  • Handle personnel matters such as performance evaluations, leave, onboarding new hires, training, project management, and any personnel issues that arise in the Reporter’s Office.
  • Keep staff informed about Court announcements.
  • Collaborate with department heads on projects.
  • Interact with publishers and AOPC regarding Superior Court business.
Salary information
Minimum Qualifications
  • J.D. from ABA-accredited law school preferred. *Candidates who possess a J.D. must also be admitted to and in active standing with the practice of law before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
Additional Qualifications/Preferences
  • Knowledge of standards, principles, and best practices of employee supervision and management.
  • Ability to communicate and teach the skills, abilities, and standards expected for the members of the staff.
  • Thorough knowledge of PACMS, including the ability to operate PACMS.
  • Thorough knowledge of court procedures, policies, organization and operations.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain a variety of complex files and prepare reports from same.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with judges and professional staff.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check required.
