Substitute Paraprofessional

Primary Purpose:

Under the guidance of the regular teacher provide duties of an educational aide during the absence of the regular aide.

Note: Substitute employees are employed on an as-needed, on-call, day-to-day basis and are not guaranteed work on a regular basis.  There are no benefits associated with substitute employment.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

A minimum of a HS Diploma or GED certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Excellent communication skills; the ability to remain patient while also maintaining an orderly classroom

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Assist the teacher in the day-to-day classroom operations.
2. Ensure adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
3. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
4. Maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
5. Oversee students during non-classroom times including, but not limited to, between classes, during lunch, and on the playground.
6. Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.

Professionalism, Communication, and Additional Responsibilities

1. Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator in accordance with school policies and practices.
2. Work cooperatively with other staff.
3. Maintain confidentiality of all information concerning students, staff, and/or parent/guardian.
