PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Assistant Superintendent of Operations, under the supervision of the Deputy Superintendent of Innovation, directs, coordinates, and supervises the operational departments for the District.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited university required
  • Superintendent certification required
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

  • Knowledge of school operations practices
  • Ability to effectively respond to inquiries and complaints in a timely manner
  • Considerable knowledge of and skill in conducting formal investigations
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and supervising skills
  • Ability to read and interpret data
  • Presentation skills, interpersonal skills, and basic technology skills

 

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) or more years of successful public school or administrative experience with District office level preferred

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Manages, through supervision, construction management, energy management, land acquisition, bond issues, school boundaries, enrollment projections, Crime Stopper Program, and Federal Impact Aid.
  • Manages the District operations and cooperatively develops long and short range objectives and goals for Child Nutrition, Facilities Planning, Maintenance, Police, and Transportation.
  • Encourages District staff members to actively participate in decision making and problem solving medium to build teamwork and unity
  • Serves as a resource person to all directors and campus administrators regarding operations
  • Demonstrates skills in conflict resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, staff and/or community members
  • Conferences regularly with supervised staff, jointly develops growth plans and supports individual professional development activities to improve skills and acquire new knowledge
  • Participates in the District-level decision process to establish and review District goals and objectives
  • Implements the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board policy in the area(s) supervised
  • Defines the program and fiscal needs in the budget development process, ensuring that fiscal resources address the mission of the District
  • Demonstrates responsible fiscal control over assigned program budgets, ensuring that fiscal resources address the mission of the District
  • Prepares requests for the Board, as required by law
  • Observes professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics
  • Responds to all grievances in a timely manner and may be called upon to participate in other employee related hearings
  • Assists legal counsel in preparation of complex cases that involve potential lawsuits against the District
  • Responds to all grievances in a timely manner and may be called upon to participate in other employee related hearings
  • May testify in court or at administrative proceedings concerning findings of investigations
  • Is responsible for disseminating and collecting information for various local, federal and state reports
  • Seeks out, attends, and participates in professional development programs
  • Stays current with new educational managerial and organizational developments
  • Participates in community activities that fosters support and mutual respect between the District and the community
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics        
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

  • Office equipment – personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.

  • Occasional: Lifting, moderate, 15-44 pounds; carrying, moderate, 15-44 pounds

 

Environmental Factors:

  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces, work alone, work prolonged or irregular hours.
