Plant Engineer – Chattanooga TN

This is a full-time, exempt position.

Tasked with investigating, sourcing, and developing solutions to issues throughout Operations, the Plant Engineer will be responsible in leading projects that contribute towards improving manufacturing efficiencies by utilizing lean manufacturing & continuous improvement techniques.

As the leader for all Lean Manufacturing initiatives in Operations the Plant Engineer plans, designs, maintains, and improves industrial facilities and equipment to ensure efficiency, safety, and compliance and is responsible for reviewing and optimizing all processes in the Chattanooga Southern Cellulose Operations group, including OEE metrics and project management/implementation of solutions, .

Job Responsibilities

  • Process Optimization / Lean Manufacturing
  • Strategically implement lean manufacturing solutions to continually improve Operational efficiency and safety.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement/Kaizen efforts with a focus on processes that encourage operator feedback and decision making.
  • Implement processes to reduce waste and minimize change-over times in all manufacturing departments.
  • Design, source and implement solutions to improve productivity in all manufacturing departments.
  • Improve OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency) by collecting and interpreting data collected from the system.
  • Process Implementation
  • Ensure appropriate validations are completed as part of solution implementation.
  • Downtime Loss Analysis and Improvement / Reduction in Start-up & Changeover downtime
  • Equipment failure (Structured failure analysis 5W's, Fishbone analysis)
  • Hazard Control
  • Participate in site safety program using OSHA guidelines.
  • CAPEX Projects: Project planning and support with full SOW for CAPEX projects, including tracking of project deliverables to ensure projects are completed on-time, within budget and to expectations.
  • Oversee all IQ/OQ/PQ (Installation, Operational and Performance Qualifications) for installed equipment.
  • Lead Management of Change (MOC) processes for new equipment installations and process changes.

Education:

  • Minimum Requirement: Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Agricultural Engineering)
  • A Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred

Experience:

  • Five (5) or more years of experience working in a food/feed/chemicals processing, continuous manufacturing, GMP industry.

Specific skills:

  • Experience working with Boiler and Powerhouse operations and regulatory compliance.
  • Process improvement experience and proven application of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen and 6 Sigma methodologies.
  • Must have strong leadership skills and the ability to direct, organize and motivate cross-functional teams and colleagues.
  • Must be able to read, write, create and comprehend standard and simple correspondences, work instructions, SOPs, and memorandums.
  • Must have demonstratable and effective presentation skills to prepare, present, share and communicate relevant information with key stakeholders and employees.
  • Mathematical Skills: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Strong reasoning ability to apply knowledge and understanding to perform detailed written or oral instructions and handle problems with limited information and variables in standardized situations.
  • Strong Mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn how to operate, maintain and repair assigned equipment.
  • Forklift Operations experience: Must be able to become forklift certified and be able to operate a forklift safely and efficiently.
  • Respirator use: Must be able to wear a respirator when required.
  • High Adaptability: Must be able to learn and quickly adapt to changes in operations and technology, and be able to implement and train colleagues on new technologies/changes in operations.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

The pay range for this position is expected to be between:

$72,900.00 - $136,200.00

Salaried Incentive Plan

The total compensation package for this position will also include annual bonus
