What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Studies/History Teacher -Middle School position at ADM Community School District?
The Adel DeSoto School District is seeking a middle school Social Studies/History teacher for the 2025-2026 school year to join our growing district. This position will be a 1.0 FTE, serving 7th/8th-grade students, and is located in Adel.
ADM MS educates approximately 350 students and is located in Adel and shares the complex with the High School. This teacher will teach 7th-grade and 8th-grade Social Studies (or one or the other) daily in an 8-period day. The Middle School has a progressive, energetic, and collaborative staff and lives by the motto: Relationships, Relationships, Relationships as they value the connections that they make with each student and their drive to have ALL students LEARN. Applicants must demonstrate a passion for integrating literacy skills/standards into social studies education and hold the characteristics of being a humble and hungry person who wants to go to all ends to meet ALL students’ needs.
The ADM staff uses the Professional Learning Community model, and this team member would be joining a highly collaborative PLC that strives for high levels of student achievement and excellence. This collaborative team follows a PLC repeating process that reviews how social studies, reading, and writing standards are being regularly used in instruction and assessments. ADM is known for having a strong, learning environment.
Requirements:
- Valid Teacher License
- License for teaching both 7th and 8th-grade students in the area of Social Studies/History

- Create and facilitate lesson plans/units with co-teachers based on formative and summative assessments aligning to the Iowa Core Literacy and Social Studies Standards, course power standards and unit compelling questions
- Participate in ongoing professional learning through developing and monitoring PLC Wildly Important Goal (WIG), engage in Social Studies and Literacy specific action-research to meet WIG, create and implement annual Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) and gather qualitative and quantitative data to measure goal growth
