Role Description This full-time hybrid role is based in Baltimore, MD, with a combination of on-site work in the studio and fabrication facility and some work-from-home flexibility. The Custom 2D/3D Environmental Designer will design and develop creative display environments for trade shows, museums, lobbies, visitor centers, and other spaces, from initial concept through production-ready files. Day-to-day responsibilities include collaborating with sales and project management to interpret client needs, creating 2D layouts and 3D visualizations, and preparing detailed drawings and specifications for fabrication. The designer will integrate graphics, architectural elements, materials, and lighting into cohesive environmental concepts aligned with brand and project objectives. The role also involves reviewing proofs, coordinating with production teams to ensure feasibility and quality, and adjusting designs based on client feedback, budgets, and timelines.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in Environmental Design and Retail Design for trade show, museum, and branded interior environments.
- Foundational understanding of Architecture and spatial planning to develop functional, buildable 3D spaces.
- Proficiency in Graphics and Graphic Design to create impactful visual elements, signage, and layouts.
- Experience with industry-standard 2D and 3D design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Revit, or similar).
- Ability to translate client objectives and brand guidelines into compelling environmental concepts and presentations.
- Strong technical documentation skills for preparing production-ready files, drawings, and specifications.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with sales, project management, fabrication, and clients.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize deadlines, and adapt designs to budget and material constraints.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design, Industrial Design, Architecture, Graphic Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Portfolio demonstrating custom 2D/3D environmental projects, including trade show exhibits or permanent displays.
