This role is critical in ensuring our HR practices are compliant, consistent, and aligned with federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate will serve as a trusted advisor on employment policies, a steward of compliance, and a proactive partner in risk mitigation and operational excellence. This is a high-impact role that supports a growing organization and contributes to a culture of integrity, transparency, and accountability. Candidates in the PST time zone are preferred.

Key Responsibilities
Policy & Compliance
- Develop, revise, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks in alignment with legal requirements and company values.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with employment laws and regulations including FLSA, EEOC, ADA, FMLA, and wage & hour laws.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes; assess implications and recommend updates to HR practices.
- Conduct periodic internal audits to identify gaps and ensure adherence to policies.
- Support investigations related to employee relations, ethics, and compliance matters in partnership with Legal and HRBPs.
- Lead or support investigations into employee complaints, misconduct, or policy violations, ensuring thorough documentation and timely resolution.
- Partner with Legal and HRBPs to assess risk, recommend corrective actions, and ensure fair and consistent outcomes.
- Manage LOA processes including FMLA, ADA accommodations, personal leave, and other statutory or company-sponsored leaves.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state leave laws and maintain accurate records of leave requests, approvals, and communications.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition to ensure recruiting and hiring practices meet legal and internal standards.
- Oversee onboarding processes, ensuring timely completion of employment documentation, I-9 verification, and policy acknowledgments.
- Maintain compliance with background checks, offer letters, and employment eligibility verification (E-Verify).
- Provide guidance on compliant job postings, interview practices, and candidate communications.
- Administer employee benefits programs including health, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability.
- Ensure compliance with ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, and other applicable regulations.
- Coordinate annual open enrollment, vendor relationships, and employee communications.
- Maintain accurate benefits records and respond to employee inquiries regarding coverage, eligibility, and claims resolution.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for employees and managers on policy interpretation and application.
- Develop and deliver training sessions on compliance topics such as anti-harassment, workplace conduct, and policy updates.
- Promote awareness of compliance obligations and foster a culture of accountability.
- Maintain accurate records of policy acknowledgments, compliance training, and audit findings.
- Prepare reports and dashboards on compliance metrics, risk areas, and audit outcomes for leadership review.
- Support data requests for internal and external audits, legal inquiries, and regulatory filings.
- Collaborate with HR Business Partners, Legal, and Operations to ensure policies support business needs and employee experience.
- Provide a compliance lens to broader HR initiatives including employee engagement and organizational development.
- Participate in cross-functional projects and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of progressive HR experience with a strong focus on compliance, policy development, and employment practices.
- Deep understanding of federal and state employment laws and HR best practices.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to build trust and influence across levels.
- Experience with HRIS and document management systems preferred.
- Professional certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus.
