Summary:
Senior Consultant with deep expertise in OpenShift Virtualization (formerly Container Native Virtualization/CNV). This is a short-term, high-impact engagement focused on architectural design, implementation, or migration strategies for running virtual machine workloads alongside container workloads on OpenShift.
The ideal candidate acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), bridging the gap between traditional virtualization (VMware/vSphere) and cloud-native Kubernetes environments.
Responsibilities:
- Architecture & Design: Design and architect OpenShift Virtualization solutions to host legacy Virtual Machines (VMs) on Kubernetes clusters using KubeVirt.
- Implementation: Deploy and configure the OpenShift Virtualization operator and associated components (HCO).
- VM Migration: execute or plan "lift-and-shift" migrations of VMs from source platforms (VMware vSphere, RHV, or bare metal) to OpenShift using the Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV).
- Network & Storage Integration: Configure Multus CNI for secondary networks and retain persistent storage connectivity for stateful VM workloads.
- Performance Tuning: Optimize VM configurations (CPU pinning, huge pages, NUMA awareness) within the containerized environment to ensure performance parity with traditional hypervisors.
- Knowledge Transfer: Provide documentation and hand-off training to internal engineering teams regarding day-to-day operations of VMs on OpenShift.
Required Qualifications:
- Extensive experience with OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) (v4.x).
- Deep expertise in OpenShift Virtualization / CNV / KubeVirt.
- Strong background in Linux Administration (RHEL CoreOS).
- Virtualization: Deep understanding of hypervisor technologies (KVM, QEMU, Libvirt) and traditional virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere).
- Experience with OCP Storage (ODF/OCS, Ceph, or CSI integration).
- Experience with SDN and Multus CNI for complex networking requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Specialist in OpenShift Virtualization.
- Experience with Ansible Automation Platform for VM provisioning and configuration management.
- Experience in Federal/Public Sector environments.
Pay Transparency: The typical base pay for this role across the U.S. is: $78.00 - $88.00/hr. Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education and experience and the benefits package you select. Full-time employees are eligible to select from different benefits packages.
