What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Full Stack Developer (AI & Conversational Systems) position at Adept EPR AI?
About Adept EPR AI
Adept EPR AI delivers a production-ready, AI-powered platform for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance, enabling brands, manufacturers, and packaging teams to navigate complex regulatory requirements with speed, confidence, and audit-ready precision. Our platform combines conversational AI, structured regulatory intelligence, and advanced data workflows to turn compliance from a cost center into a strategic advantage.
We are a fast-moving, product-led organization operating at the intersection of AI, sustainability, and regulatory technology, supported by an established, internationally distributed team spanning product, engineering, and domain expertise.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Full Stack Developer (AI & Conversational Systems) to become a key contributor within an existing international team, helping to evolve and scale Adept EPR AI’s already built and actively used platform. This is not a greenfield role; the system is in production and supporting real-world regulatory and compliance workflows today.
You will work across the front end and back end, enhancing core conversational and data-driven experiences and integrating large language models into production systems used daily by compliance analysts, packaging engineers, and sustainability leaders.
This role is remote-first, with a strong preference for candidates who can collaborate effectively during East Coast business hours while operating comfortably within a globally distributed team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement modern JavaScript-based front-end experiences that support conversational AI workflows and complex data interactions.
- Architect, build, and maintain scalable Python backend services powering public-facing AI features.
- Integrate and operate large language models (LLMs) in production, including:
- Prompt engineering and context management
- Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
- Tool / function calling and structured outputs
- Agent-based workflows
- Ensure system reliability, safety, and trust through guardrails, moderation, and abuse prevention mechanisms.
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting to maintain production stability and rapid incident response.
- Contribute to and improve CI/CD pipelines, cloud deployments, and infrastructure decisions supporting high availability and scalability.
- Lead and participate in code reviews, reinforcing strong engineering standards and best practices.
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies and architectural patterns to support long-term product evolution.
- Collaborate closely with product, data, and domain experts, communicating clearly, raising risks early, and delivering high-quality solutions at speed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 8–10 years of experience building, scaling, and maintaining production-grade applications using JavaScript and Python.
- Strong experience with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, or similar).
- Deep expertise in Python backend development, including API design, asynchronous processing, and system integration.
- Hands-on experience deploying and operating LLM-powered systems in production.
- Solid understanding of core AI concepts such as prompt design, RAG, agents, evaluation, and structured outputs.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices, including CI/CD, containerization, monitoring, and logging.
- Proven ability to make sound architectural decisions in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable working cross-functionally in a remote setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building public-facing, high-availability SaaS platforms.
- Familiarity with responsible AI practices, including safety, evaluation, and governance.
- Background working in startup or scale-up environments where ownership and adaptability are critical.
- Exposure to regulated domains (e.g., compliance, finance, sustainability, healthcare, or govtech) is a plus.
Work Environment
- Remote-first, collaborative culture
- Preference for candidates working Eastern Time Zone hours
- High ownership, high trust, and high impact
Benefits & Compensation
- Competitive salary and equity participation (where applicable)
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
- Generous paid time off and holidays
- Professional development and learning support
