About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Controls & Automation Engineer to support and enhance manufacturing operations in a fast‑paced, JIT, complex assembly environment. In this 2nd shift role, you will be a key technical resource responsible for improving equipment uptime, system reliability, and automation performance.
You will work closely with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to troubleshoot issues, implement program changes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that directly impact safety, quality, and productivity.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will own and support automation and control systems across the plant, including:
Controls & Automation Engineering
- Develop and implement software and hardware changes to reduce machine downtime and improve system efficiency and quality
- Troubleshoot, modify, and program PLCs to resolve production and equipment issues
- Support and maintain automation systems in a high‑volume manufacturing environment
Robotics & Equipment Support
- Maintain and improve automated systems including FANUC robotics, vision systems, and torque control equipment
- Support integration and optimization of new and existing automation equipment
- Assist with equipment launches and production ramp‑ups as needed
Collaboration & Maintenance Support
- Partner closely with the plant maintenance team to diagnose and resolve equipment issues
- Coordinate work with outside contractors, vendors, and suppliers
- Support production teams to ensure optimal line performance and minimal downtime
Documentation & Preventive Maintenance
- Maintain accurate documentation for machines and assets, including drawings, diagrams, manuals, and change history
- Help ensure spare parts, tools, and supplies are stocked to support uptime goals
- Contribute to preventive maintenance programs and reliability initiatives
Continuous Improvement & Compliance
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aligned with plant and department goals
- Support ISO 14001 and IATF 16949 procedures and compliance requirements
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
What You’ll Bring (Required)
- 5–6 years of experience in manufacturing or automation engineering
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Automation Engineering
- Strong hands‑on experience with Allen‑Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix)
- Ability to read, understand, and modify ladder logic
- Experience programming and supporting HMI systems (e.g., PanelView)
- Hands‑on experience with FANUC robotics (ABB experience a plus)
- Proven experience working directly with plant maintenance teams
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
Preferred Skills
- Siemens PLC programming experience
- Experience with vision systems
- Experience with electric torque control systems (Atlas Copco, Stanley)
- Ability to provide leadership or oversight for maintenance personnel during off‑shift coverage needs
- Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
