Position Summary

The Electrical Controls Designer works directly with the Controls Engineer and Engineering team to create and maintain electrical and pneumatic drawings for custom automation equipment. This role is responsible for developing electrical schematics, panel layouts, and bills of materials while ensuring compliance with company standards and applicable electrical codes.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and experienced in industrial automation environments with strong AutoCAD drafting capabilities and a working knowledge of electrical design standards related to machine controls and automation systems.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, pneumatic schematics, panel layouts, and bills of materials using AutoCAD.
  • Support Controls Engineers with documentation and design activities for custom automation systems.
  • Interpret customer specifications and engineering requirements for electrical controls systems.
  • Verify drawings against actual equipment builds and support troubleshooting efforts as needed.
  • Ensure designs comply with UL508A, NEC, NFPA79, CE, and company engineering standards.
  • Assist with I/O layouts, component selection, wire routing, and panel design documentation.
  • Revise and maintain project documentation throughout the lifecycle of projects.
  • Communicate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, vendors, customers, and project teams.
  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary company and customer information.
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to drafting standards and engineering processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Desired

  • Minimum of 4 years of electrical drafting or controls design experience using AutoCAD.
  • Experience creating electrical schematics, pneumatic schematics, and control panel layouts.
  • Basic understanding of electrical and electronic principles related to industrial automation equipment.
  • Working knowledge of: UL508A, NEC, NFPA79, CE design standards
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required to support project schedules.

Nonessential Skills And Experience

  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC hardware and Rockwell Automation software products.
  • Exposure to RSLogix 5000 or Studio 5000 environments.
  • Familiarity with CIP Motion or motion control systems.
  • Experience supporting custom automation or machine-building industries.
  • AutoCAD Electrical experience preferred.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Experience supporting machine startup or commissioning activities.

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will onsite. The noise level in the work environment can be minimal to high. Safe work practices are always required in accordance with OSHA regulations, Addtronics, LLC safety protocols, and customer safety protocols.

Position Classification 

This is a full-time, exempt salaried position. Depending on the needs of the business, the ability to work more than 40 hours/week and/or weekends may be required. Overtime will not be paid for hours worked over 40 hours/week.
