What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior AWS Database Architect position at ADDSOURCE?
Title: Senior AWS Database Architect
Location: Remote (US)
Duration: Long Term
Position Overview:
The customer is modernizing a large, legacy relational database estate on AWS. You will lead the migration and modernization of complex Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL workloads to AWS - primarily to Aurora PostgreSQL and, where applicable, Oracle Database @AWS (ODB@AWS) - including schema/PL SQL conversion, cutover, and validation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute migrations of relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) to AWS (Aurora PostgreSQL, RDS, ODB@AWS).
- Perform schema and PL/SQL conversion/refactoring; plan and run migration waves (assessment cutover validation tuning).
- Produce target state data models, migration runbooks, ADRs, and guidance for application teams.
- Ensure migrated databases meet security and compliance requirements (least privilege IAM, KMS encryption at rest/in transit).
Must Have
- Relational databases (Level 400): Deep hands on with at least two of Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL; advanced SQL and PL/SQL.
- Database migration to AWS (Level 300 400): Proven delivery migrating production databases to Aurora PostgreSQL / RDS, using AWS DMS and SCT (Schema Conversion Tool).
- Core AWS data stores (Level 300): RDS / Aurora PostgreSQL, S3, IAM, KMS.
Should Have
- Programming: Python for data processing and migration automation.
- PL/SQL conversion at scale (Oracle PostgreSQL) and heterogeneous migration experience.
- ODB@AWS familiarity.
- Financial services / regulated enterprise delivery (PCI DSS / SOC2 awareness).
- IaC: Terraform. (CDK not required.)
- Agile / Jira (Level 200): Manage own user stories within the sprint.
- Nice to Have
- Agentic AI / Amazon Bedrock for data accelerators (code analysis/conversion, data domain tagging) - differentiator, not a gate.
- Data lake / lakehouse exposure (Glue, Lake Formation, Athena, Redshift).
- Legacy source familiarity (Exadata, Sybase, DB2, mainframe).
- GenAI coding assistants (Q Developer, Kiro).
- AWS certifications: Database Specialty or Solutions Architect (Associate/Pro).
