Job Summary
The Controls Systems Technician III is a senior-level technician responsible for advanced installation, programming, integration, and troubleshooting of building automation and HVAC control systems. This role requires expert-level technical skills, leadership abilities, and a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems integration. The Controls Systems Technician III serves as a technical resource for field crews, assists with commissioning activities, and ensures all systems are installed, tested, and operating to design intent and customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Install, program, and commission control systems including DDC controllers, sensors, actuators, and networks.
Diagnose and repair complex system issues involving controls hardware, software, and integration.
Lead and mentor Controls Tech I and II team members to ensure quality and safety standards.
Interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and mechanical drawings.
Configure and troubleshoot communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, TCP/IP).
Perform point-to-point testing, functional verification, and system commissioning.
Generate reports, as-built drawings, and documentation for completed systems.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and customers to ensure project success.
Maintain compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Expert understanding of building automation and HVAC control systems.
Proficient in software platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Siemens, Honeywell, or Johnson Controls.
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with complex electrical and mechanical systems.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
Excellent leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED required.
Associate degree or technical certification in HVAC Controls, Electrical Technology, or Building Automation preferred.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience with control systems installation, programming, and commissioning.
Certifications & Licenses
OSHA 30-Hour Certification required.
BAS manufacturer certifications (Tridium, Siemens, Honeywell, etc.) preferred.
EPA Universal Certification preferred.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
