Job Title: Referee/Umpire (Soccer, Basketball & Softball)
Department: Recreation
Reports to: Athletics Manager
Job Class: Regular Part Time, Non-exempt
Work Hours: Variable hours depending on game schedules
General times: Weeknights 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Saturdays 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Pay Rate: $32 per game
Position Summary
Responsible for the safety and control of games as assigned and the rules of game and must be studied, known, and used consistently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures the game is played according to the rules, making fair and consistent judgments on plays
- Manages the flow of the game, ensures player safety, and addresses any disputes or unsportsmanlike behavior on the field.
- Positively interact with youth, coaches, parents/guardians, and team members
- Follows all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed; supports all aspects of the Park District's safety program.
- Performs all other duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- Understanding of basic philosophy surrounding the games, and the ability to interpret that to staff and public.
- Ability to be punctual, dependable, and trustworthy.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
- Ability to work harmoniously with the public and fellow employees in an enthusiastic, cooperative, and productive manner. Demonstrate great customer service.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Previous experience and umpire certifications are a plus, but not required
- Must have and maintain: CPR/AED certified or obtain within 6 months of employment. Be a "Mandated Reporter" for the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
- Requires sitting, standing, and occasional lifting. May require lifting up to 25 lbs. to set up and stage areas for events.
- Will be required to work indoors and outdoors, which may lead to hot and cold weather and related outdoor conditions, noise, dust, etc., when working throughout the facilities.
