The Opportunity

The VP of Engineering will provide strategic and technical leadership to maintain, develop and innovate industry leading commercial indoor air quality DOAS (Dedicated Outdoor Air System) products. They will continue to build and develop our team while scaling our engineering and quality processes to support our growth. This person will embrace our vision of brand leadership in commercial healthy air solutions and partner with our leadership team to continue to deliver and drive profitable growth in both new and existing markets and product categories. This individual must possess a strong technical vision and a track record of success both in delivering winning new product solutions and building a high performance organization.


REPORTS TO: President

SUPERVISES: Mechanical, Electrical, Controls and Continuous Improvement Engineering teams driving NPI and current product support.


DELIVERABLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Lead, develop, and build a high performance, multi-disciplined engineering team to support double-digit revenue growth.
  • Key contributor to strategic new product development plan and roadmap, driven by VOC feedback. Work in partnership with the Sales team to develop and launch an expanding portfolio of core commercial products that improve indoor air quality.
  • Lead and execute the engineering team to effectively support production activities post-order and pre-shipment
  • Develop a technology roadmap and advanced product development capabilities to ensure we continue to develop innovative industry leading products.
  • Drive best practice and process improvement in new product development to create step change improvements in speed to market, quality, and cost.
  • Transform the team culture to deliver more value and innovation at lower cost and improved margins.
  • Establish departmental performance metrics that measure internal and external stakeholder satisfaction and productivity


Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Manage and develop an expanding team of 20 engineering and technical resources in Electrical, Computer Science/Software, Mechanical and Continuous Improvement.
  • Collaborate effectively with Sales, Manufacturing, Application Engineering, Production Support and other internal functional groups to ensure orders are released timely, engineering drawings are accurate and product controls are complete to support production schedule
  • Develop a growing product portfolio that penetrates multiple vertical markets, including k-12 school, office buildings, multi-family, industrial/manufacturing, retail/grocery, tourism and recreational facilities
  • Lead a comprehensive Controls/SOO (Sequence of Operations) ecosystem delivering efficient commercial products.
  • Participate as a key member of the leadership team working to develop a strategic roadmap designed to anticipate the technology needs of a rapidly expanding market and a growing company.
  • Lead the planning, analysis, design, development, and testing of new and enhanced product and business applications, in support of the company’s product portfolio.
  • Partner with internal functional groups to deliver customer solutions through new products, ongoing product enhancements and custom solutions, leveraging VOC
  • Clearly and effectively communicate strategy, initiatives, objectives, issues, and performance including developing and implementing organizational metrics to drive results and positive behavior.
  • Develop a performance driven Engineering team; Build upon and continue to foster a culture of excellence to attract and retain talent.
  • Drive relentless program delivery to agreed timings and budget through effective deployment of the project management and engineering resources.
  • Ensure product compliance with relevant company policies and existing/emerging industry regulatory standards, certifications, and testing requirements.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of competitor products and capabilities. Develop a keen awareness of emerging industry trends to assure the company maintains and enhances its reputation as the leader.
  • Oversight and leadership for product quality, reliability and performance from design through manufacturability.
  • Value engineering and design for manufacturing.


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering or equivalent engineering degree required (Master degree preferred).


REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:

  • 10 years of experience leading Engineering for world-class product development team.
  • Roll up your sleeves, can-do attitude, unafraid to emerge into the business as a player-coach at times
  • Knowledge of HVAC equipment and applications, indoor air environments, building practices, and the building envelope.
  • Demonstrated engineering competencies in Mechanical Products (Refrigeration Circuits), Electronics and Controls and/or Software/Apps.
  • A demonstrated ability to build process and best practices into a North American middle-market sized business.
  • Experience building, leading and expanding a value-added R&D/Advanced development capability that includes internal resources, external strategic partnerships, and capital expense infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated leadership to attract talent, develop people, and lead an organization from good to great.
  • Strong project management and communication skills with the ability to manage diverse, simultaneous projects of varying complexities.
  • Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration – strong in forging relationships across groups and driving buy-in and commitment towards solutions that may be challenging or new.
  • Demonstrated ability developing innovative winning new products.
  • Highly organized around priorities, quality and meeting deadlines.
  • Highly self-motivated with a strong bias for action.
  • Experienced in working with customers and suppliers.


Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking through the factory.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on computers.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times using safe techniques.
