Job Title: Payroll Accountant
Location: Sterling, Virginia
Compensation: $70,000 - $80,000 (depending on qualifications)

Qualifications:
- 5 years of payroll accounting experience, including required experience processing multu-state and union payroll.
- Hands-on experience administering union payroll, including collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), union dues, fringe benefit calculations, certified payroll reporting (if applicable), and union benefit remittances.
- Strong understanding of payroll accounting principles and general ledger reconciliations.
- Experience preparing payroll journal entries and supporting month-end and year-end close.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, including Forms 941, W-2s, and payroll tax reporting.
- Experience with payroll systems such as ADP Workforce Now, UKG, Paycom, Workday, Ceridian Dayforce, or Paylocity.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and financial reporting functions.
Job Description:
- Process bi-weekly payroll for 2,000 employees.
- Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries, including wages, payroll taxes, benefits, and accrued payroll liabilities.
- Reconcile payroll accounts, general ledger accounts, and payroll tax liabilities as part of the month-end close process.
- Prepare quarterly and annual payroll tax reconciliations, including Forms 941, W-2s, and state/local payroll tax filings.
- Maintain payroll records, employee deductions, garnishments, benefits, retirement contributions, and paid time off balances.
- Coordinate payroll funding and ensure timely remittance of payroll taxes and benefit payments.
- Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, tax notices, and employee payroll inquiries.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing payroll schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Assist with year-end close activities, including payroll accruals and account analyses.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and company policies.
- Collaborate with HR on new hires, terminations, employee status changes, and benefits administration.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance payroll accuracy and efficiency.
